domino
I want to see how many of you use this combination, or a browser that pre-fetches pages . Therefore, a poll I created Reason: Accessive bandwidth usage
Swad
I've never used FasterFox the plugin, but back in the day when the pre-fetching hack came out, I tried it. It seems considerably faster, but FF is fast enough on its own. Didn't they incorporate some kind of pre-fetching into FF 1.5?
domino
Actually, the pre-fetching should be an option to enable it or not. Pre-fetching isn't a browser standard at all. The first to start it was Opera, claiming to be "the fastest browser". Which is in fact true. But consider 1000 visitors on a forum all having pre-fetch the forum, that will literally quadruple the server bandwidth. A lot of sites and large forums are starting to disallow pre-fetch browsers just for that reason. On all Mozilla browsers, you can tweak pre-fetch by entering about:config in the url box. Fasterfox and other just provide an easier way to treak the browser settings.
sHARD>>
We actually block prefetching here. And if some are getting through, they soon won't be, as I'm going to go take a look at that Anyhow, Opera doesn't prefetch anymore, it hasn't for a long time.
