Vista's advertising campaign

Apple has a tendancy to mock Vista a lot. I can't help but do the same...

MS spent millions on promoting "The 'WOW' starts now. Experience Windows Vista."

All I have to say to that is: "The 'WOW' started 5 years ago. Experience OS X."

Agreed?

to most people it would seem like the "wow started now" and thats all that matters to the microsoft ad campaign

they know that all the new flashy stuff in vista was in osx they also know that most of their customers do know about osx

I don't wanna start a flame war, but I find the Mac ads to be pretty silly too. We have one lame guy labelled as a PC, and another "cooler" looking guy labeled as a Mac. Every time I see that ad, I feel like my IQ dropped a few points... However, "The Wow starts Now" is pretty lame too.

haha, yea, i think that m$ is just trying to avoid taking low blows at their not-really-but-sort-of competitor.

and all i have to say is this is one of 1billion other fanboy this/fanboy that cesspools..... but w/e the add campaign is pritty stupid, but its aimed at a more mature audience, do you think that a big corperation can watch one of those cartoon-like apple adds and go "thats what we use!"

Actually, that part that is funniest to me is that it doesn't matter WHAT their campaign is, Macs are still not even on the map. :D

Maybe Vista is terrible (it's not). Maybe Microsoft copied everything from Apple (they didn't). It really doesn't matter, because in about 2 or 3 years, more than 50% of all computers in the world will be running Vista, and my prediction is that the Macintosh won't be around by about 6 or 7 years from now. Apple will be, because we all need our iPods, but no one will be using Macs anymore.

I disagree. Apple is doing more better and better each year with regards to Macs, and I think that was caused by the good publicity they got from iPods. I think this will continue to happen over the years and Apple will gain larger and larger market share.

Microsoft have gained a lot of bad publicity because of the fact that many many people hate Vista so I think their market share will slowly decrease, while Apple's eventually increases.

Lol Mac tries to look so good but their never going to control that much of the market. Windows still controls what...85%? of the market

90% B)

And Macs have around 10% market share.

However, like I said in my last post... that figure is increasing for Macs and I think it'll be pretty high soon enough, especially with the good publicity Apple is receiving and the bad publicity MS are receiving through Vista.

Depends what type of corperation it is. I think a corperation like Google (is Google a corperation?) would be able to do that - you know, the ones with a sense of humor.

But I agree with you, most corperations aren't like this and are very serious so I don't think they will take pride in running Macs. And I think that's one of the main reasons why Macs aren't a bit hit in the business area. They're focused more on home users and that's exactly the type of people who do buy Macs. The only businesses (mainly) who buy Macs are media companies and there's not many media companies who are large type of corperations with no sense of humor (a 'serious' culture/attitude).

What I think Apple should do is create a seperate business OS and market it towards businesses, to grow their market share and reputation within the business community.

Their market share is not 10%. It's 2.4%. You have to go by real numbers, not Steve Jobs numbers.

Yes, I'm sure 2007 will be a banner year for Apple. They'll finally reach 3% market share. Won't that be a glorious day?

Seriously folks, Windows has caught up in all the areas that the Mac used to reign supreme, like audio and video editing. There is nothing you can't do on Windows that you can do on a Mac. And more and more people are waking up to the fact that they don't have to keep paying Apple's ridiculous prices for the same functionality, and they don't have to use Windows at home and Macs for creative work, when they can do it all from one machine. Add to that the fact that Office for Mac keeps getting less and less useful, and people really need Outlook for organization, and things don't look good for Apple.

I've said it before. I predict that by 6 or 7 years from now, Apple won't be making computers anymore, and if they do, it won't be running OS X, it will be running Windows. They'll still be making iPods and other electronics devices, but there is practically no reason to keep fighting a losing battle with Windows.

Apple fans keep talking like it's a war, and they've got to keep fighting until they've won. Windows users couldn't care less. Most of them hardly even know Apple makes computers.

Do you realize that OS X isn't even number 2 in the market? It's number 3. LINUX is number 2. How sad is that?

Marketing campaigns and ads need not to be smart, but effective in reaching the target audience. If the target audience is stupid...

You get the idea.

hecker

 I didnt even think of that!! wow, just wow. thats all i have to say.

Ridiculous prices for what? because it's certainly not for the operating system. Maybe you mean the nice hardware? I work with a mac fan/pc hater who confessed he totally hated OS 9.. maybe some never outgrew their past negative experiences with os. My experience with Ubuntu and Vista RC1 were great. So.. so with OS X because of the filesystem and not everything worked on my pc hardware. After messing with Ubuntu for 3 months, I found OS X much easier to get accustomed to. So much so that I bought a MacBook Pro.

Office for Mac less and less useful? What kind of a claim is that? I use it everyday and find it just as useful as Office 2003. Hats off to MS for such a good job.

You say people are realizing that they don't have to use Macs. Most people never knew that to begin with. Some people are realizing is that Windows isn't the only option. And for the software that only works with Windows, there is always bootcamp or Parallels desktop and both run amazingly on my machine. I only find a need to reboot into bootcamp when I need full 3D acceleration for gaming which Parallels doesn't provide at the moment.

I doubt creative individuals are going to jump over to vista. I say that only because I find OS X's default software far more feature rich and useful than Windows' offering.

Your figures are no truer than mine if you don't state reliable sources.

It won't be until you actually start doing media-intensive tasks (like audio and video editing) that you'll realise this, but Macs are far better for these types of tasks. Sure you *can* do it on Windows, but it will never be as good. That's the reason Macs have been portrayed as the best computers for these types of things, by both individuals and businesses.

I happen to think the prices of Macs are reasonable. You need to pay good money for good things.

If you want a better example of rip-off prices take a look at Microsoft's operating systems. You're paying a lot of money for a very low-quality product IMO.

That's an interesting prediction you make there.. no one can really tell the future but I guess we'll see :)

This just in, 95% of people that use a computer really don't give a {censored} if it's Windows or not, and don't care about the alternative.

Actually, most people who use their computers a lot do care about what OS they use. The rest (the 95% as you say) don't use their computers very often, so they're obviously not going to care whether it crashes every 2 seconds (windows) or not (mac). Those (you included, I think) are the type of people we (the one's who use their computers a lot... "geeks" I guess they're called) call a newb, or n00b. ;)
