Hi, I've got a latitude d620 and I'm wondering if it would work with OSX? I have the one with the broadcom chipsets and the intel video driver.

Has anyone else tried this? Are there any howto's for this laptop?

Someone please help me out? :thumbsup_anim:

I have JaS 10.4.8 working perfectly on a Latitude D620 (dual-booting with Windows XP).

I've attached a copy of my notes from the install. Hopefully they will help you.

When doing the install, choose the bare minimum (I just chose the Intel SSE packages and the print drivers). DO NOT install any other drivers (video, sound, etc.).

When the install is done and the computer reboots, go into your Bios settings and change the value for the number of processors to 1. Otherwise, you'll get some funky mouse and window behavior.

After the install, I installed the Titan video kext files (replaced the standard device ID with my device ID) and now I have a working D620 Hackintosh with full 1440x900 resolution! See: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Titan I have the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M video card.

As for ethernet...I had to purchase a D-Link DWL-122 Rev B USB adapter because the internal wireless and ethernet adapters aren't supported yet. The DWL-122 works great!

I don't have sound working yet - mostly because I don't really care. ;)

So when I change the bios setting only to use 1 cpu I need to change it back every single time I want to boot my OS of choice which is ubuntu? ;) For some reason it doesn't want to boot from the dvd!

*Edit*

I found out by disabling the one of the two cpu's it works installing so far.

You shouldn't have to...I left my setting and I'm able to boot from both Windows and Mac.

Do you get any errors when you boot from the DVD? Make sure you use the "-v" option when Darwin comes up.

None errors so far as I know. The broadcom wifi seems to work like half-assed, because osx detects it as an Airport but I can't seem to configure it..

Same thing happened to me. It showed up but it was greyed out. I actually got the Broadcom 57xx card to work, but it would cause a kernel panic after about 30 seconds of use. Not good.

Hi all

(sorry for my poor english :wallbash: )

I also have a Dell D620 (10.4.9, JAS combo update) . I find for ethernet and drivers for few weeks.

Sound works fine with appleHDA patcher 1.15 thanks taruga !! :D

Il trying to compile and modify IOPPCCard.kext to make O2Micro carbus controller working but it's hard to log and find error (I think it's in IOPCIFamily.kext ...).

if somebody has idea for cardbus (i try few solutions found in forum but nothing works :censored2: ) because for wireless i think it will be soon (I hope ! :wallbash: ) and ethernet , the best i done was modify BCM5751 for 5752 but kernel panic after fews seconds sniff !!

Hey, I also have a latitude D620. I got everything to work... video... wireless... haven't tried wired yet but I could care less... I just don't have the sound working as of yet. I tried the AppleHDAPatcher from Taruga. I tried 1.16, 1.15, and 1.14 with almost every .txt file on that site (STAC9200a-j.txt) and nothing seems to work. Any help? These are my specs...

Revision Id: 0x1022

Thanks a bunch! :)

Hi Folks,

I hate to jump in here and be a complete noob (and a demanding one at that), but I'm going to. :)

I have ordered a new Dell 620 and would love to dual boot Mac OS X and Ubuntu. The Ubuntu part I have covered but I would really appreciate some good instructions on how to get Mac OS X up and running. By "good instructions" I pretty well mean step-by-step, including what base install I should use, what additions I need to download (including links if possible) and any manual modifications that need to be made, etc. Basically soup to nuts would be much appreciated since I have never played around with a Hackintosh at all. I run Macs at home and Linux at work so I'm not a complete goober, but I see waaay too many "I downloaded super.kext.115 and hacked the kernel in reverse order" stuff flying around here and no real way for me to grab on and run with it yet.

Thanks for anyone that can give a poor Hackintosh noob a hand.

Work with 10.4.10 - 10410update.zip

Jas 10.4.8 solid with GMA950 Patch and kernel parameter changes (in Bold):

/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>cpus=1</string>

(cpus=1 great for dual booting.)

Mouse not detected as Trackpad and still no working NIC.

Update to 10.4.10 stable with kext from package:

Reapplied PowerManagement.Bundle and

AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext/Info.plist

(Restore Info.plist before reboot or go into single user mode. If not, windows will not load.)

Sound works with AppleHDAPatcher_v1.16 and 9200 linux dump.

I am an original FreeBSD fan, so I didn't dual boot with Linux. I use a freeware loader to dual boot into Windows. Couldn't get Parallels to recognize the XP partition (target). I have to use a virtual image, but works fine. I use it for Blackberry tethering with Verizon.

Laptop seems to run faster than my first gen Intel MBP even with a crippled CPU. idlehalt=0 did not seem to work for me. If anyone has found a stable solution, please share. Also, would be nice to get the 1G NIC working.

Some kernel tweaks for mem and IP stack pulled from FreeBSD servers (use accordingly):

kern.ipc.somaxconn=65535

kern.maxfiles=65536

kern.ipc.maxsockbuf=8388608

kern.maxfilesperproc=32768

net.inet.udp.maxdgram=57344

net.local.stream.recvspace=65535

net.local.stream.sendspace=65535

net.inet.tcp.slowstart_flightsize=0

net.inet.ip.intr_queue_maxlen=1024

net.inet.tcp.rfc1644=1

net.inet.tcp.rfc3390=1

net.inet.tcp.strict_rfc1948=1

net.inet.tcp.path_mtu_discovery=1

kern.sysv.shmmax=33554432

kern.sysv.shmmin=1

kern.sysv.shmmni=32

kern.sysv.shmseg=8

kern.sysv.shmall=8192

I have also had experience with Dell C640 and GX620/GX745. If anyone needs feedback, let me know.

I have a D620 as well. Everything is working except internal NIC. I swapped out the standard wireless with the Dell card that is working great. I also tried to set up Parallels, but it didn't like my XP partition. Also tried VMware and although i get the windows boot screen, i get a blue screen. Likely due to a driver issue. Would love to figure out how to get this to work as i don't want to create another PC image just to run apps under windows. Anyone have any thoughts.

is anyone running 10.5 on their d620? i'm having trouble with the dell wireless card and the sound. the graphics are also a little choppy, sometimes animations are too fast and not smooth.

jrp: i think you can solve the choppy graphics by using

cpus=1

at the boot prompt, or alternately, use the boot.plist edit mentioned above by jkc88. can't help with the wireless card. i am also working on the sound now. will re-post if i get it working.

thank you so much!all i have left is wireless and sound now...

the cpus=1 string fixed the graphics AND the wireless problem! thank you! and now i got sound working thanks to sziggle!

now i'm working on trying to get it to sleep and wake up from sleep. anybody get this going? i'll try to make a whole guide for installing 10.5 on the d620.

one other thing...why is the string "cpus=1" necessary in leopard? does that essentially disable one core and reduce performance?

nevermind i fixed it. just rebooted into the brazilmac install dvd, opened up terminal, and then ran the post patch again. then booted into single user mode and ran the pc efi v4 patch and rebooted without a problem!

hey jrp,

Did you manage to make a tutorial to get osx installed on the D620 ?

I would be very interested to look at it if you have it.

I managed to get leo installed but i can't get network to work (both of them). The vide is working ok but

when i put my computer in a docking station i don't get picture on the external monitor. Anyone tried that ?

I haven't tried the sound yet because without network i don'd have much to do on it.

Let me know if i can help with something so we can make the tutorial.

sziggle did you update to 10.5.1 ? I just did and it boots but i have a black screen. any suggestions?

sorry i missed this. i did upgrade to 10.5.1 and the thing that gave you the black screen was a new version of AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext that got installed in the 10.5.1 update. all i did to get my screen back was boot with the ToH install DVD and copy over the same kext from the DVD (which is the 1.4.20 version of it).

i was also thinking about writing a how-to for leopard on the D620. for me right now i have two unsolved issues:

1) no ethernet with the broadcomm 57xx gigabit

2) when i sleep the laptop (which works fine) and then wake it up, the screen does NOT wake up

one issue to pay attention to for a guide is that there are several variations of the D620 out there. which wireless card is installed, which internal ethernet, which graphics card. these can all be different in different combos for any given D620, so it will be important to specify what hardware you are talking about when you supply a given piece of advice. i put my hardware (along with device and vendor id's) in my signature.

You have a different wireless card than I do. I know there's been some problems with the Intel wireless card. I found one thread here about intel wireless cards, and it seems to be a work in progress at the moment. the link is http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...945&st=3620 .

there's still a lot of issues with external monitors too, and we're all having problems getting the d620 to wake after sleep.

the sound is a really easy fix. download the file d620_sound from sziggle on page 1 of this thread. it's really straightforward and fixed my audio perfectly. it looks like we all have the same sound card more or less...

i'll work on the guide shortly hopefully.

i have the exact same issues. i added my hardware specs to my signature and it looks like we have a very similar model. mine's relatively old compared to the new ones that have core 2 duo instead of core duo like mine. there's also options for a nvidia card too i think...

let me know if you make any progress finding drivers for the gigabit adapter or getting the laptop to wake up. i'll keep looking too. also, i'm going to try to figure out a way around disabling one of the cores...and once again, thanks a lot for your help!
