What do YOU do in OS X?

Hey guys,

I searched around and don't think there is a thread quite like this, but in any case. The question is of what you do in OS X that you enjoy so much? This is by no means an attack on OS X, but I'm curious what works better for you in OS X than in say Windows. I personally love OS X but what all makes it better than Windows for you (more of what you run, no how you run it.) What are your must-have apps for OS X?

I love using my OSX for

-Eclipse for developing applications (works better than under windoes IMHO)

-Rapidweaver plus all "YourHead.com" plugins for quick website development. There's just no match for this app.

-Listening/Ripping music with Itunes. That app simply rocks.

-Photoshopping with PS3beta

-Syncing all of my handheld devices via bluetooth: LifeDrive, Phone, Calendary. It just works.

-Creating graphs and simple UML with omnigraffle Pro.

Plus pretty much all of the general common tasks: browsing the web, chatting, mailing, vidiing. Everything is stable, smooth and accessible.

Cheers,

the only reason I got into OS X was to try Logic. I love that app! I liked it so much that after using the hacked version of Logic Express I went out and bought Logic Pro. One day I hope to complete the cycle and buy a real Apple but the MacPro is just too much right now.

I do everything with it. I rarely open windows.

It's a million times more stable than windows. It's much funner than windows and never crashes even when I have a million apps running. Even browsing the web on OS X feels snappier on OS X.

Right to the point, plus no viruses. :thumbsup_anim:

What DON'T I do is a better question. I code HTML pages, use FTP to update the site, then I can take my photos and edit them with various pieces of software, then I can capture digital video or analog video and make movies/dvds, then I can chat with anybody with any software on the net like windows users can, THEN I can surf to any site and do what I want (even IE only sites), THEN take audio and edit it (ghost hunter there) and can export it to multiple formats, THEN I can play some games on it (yes winblows has more but mac is not void of games), THEN I can burn and rip dvds on OS X, THEN I can do all the cd/dvd copying burning like Nero etc with Toast, THEN I can use Open Office to do office stuff, etc etc. OS X and Linux can do all that windows can do. Yes, gaming to. The ONLY reason gaming isn't that big on these OS's is the COMPANY's that make the games fault. These OS's can handle them, they are just not programming for Linux/OS X.

Like Ahmad Moawya said, OS X is just better and snappier. I am dial up and I surf faster than my wife's Windows laptop. OS X is just secure, fast, and free of viruses and spyware. :thumbsup_anim:

I want to see a screenshot, or even better, a video of your desktop working fast with a MILLION apps running. You must have a huge brain to do that kind of multitasking :thumbsup_anim:

I use my mac:

  • For recording music (Logic Pro7/ProTools MPowered)
  • For composing music (Garageband/Logic/Sibelius4)
  • For printing music for musicians and students (Sibelius4)
  • To play backing tracks for my own practice and the occasional solo gig (Garageband and Rax2)
  • As a virtual effects rack for when I am playing with a band live (Rax2)
  • For internet surfing (Safari)
  • Torrents (Azureus but am thinking of doing it in a dedicated Parallels VM running utorrent instead)

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I rarely boot into windows at all any more.

[*]Torrents (Azureus but am thinking of doing it in a dedicated Parallels VM running utorrent instead)

Have you tried Transmission? I think it's probably the best OSX app that can compare to uTorrent.

As for me I do everything in OSX: browsing, email, IM, school work, programming, pic/music/video editing, a little gaming, rip/burn dvds/cds, listening to/syncing music with my ipod.

Pretty much everything I'll do in Mac OSX, excluding game playing. If they did have a Guilty Gear XX Reload port for OSX, however, it'd be over. No more Windows.

I haven't been using it a lot lately, but I love Garageband. Quite addictive!

These days I use Final Cut Pro, a little iMovie now and then, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver. I also love some Mac-only video apps like JES Video Cleaner (sure, Windows has free video cleaners, but I haven't found one as newbie-friendly—does anyone have any suggestions?) or VisualHub. The Mac version of MPEG Streamclip has more flexibility than the Windows version (namely, an ability to encode XviD).

I do a lot of generic computer stuff, like write documents, surf the web, listen to music and play video. These can be done on either platform, but with Mac OS X, the interface is more pleasant, and I'm not dealing with virus worries or annoying updates all the time.
