RobNyc
Seems I get RESTART screen (could be APCI error) selecting or not selecting the 10.4.9 kernel Maybe I need to get the 10.4.9 Kernel itself first and keep checking in how to fix this problem I downloaded the new kiko update off of demonoid and installed the 10.4.9 kernel and I seem to be having trouble with the new 8.9.1 kernel because after the update I get this kernel panic: Panic(cpu 0 caller 0x01AA86A): Local APIC error Debugger called: <panic> Backtrace, format - frame : Return Address (4 Potential args on stack) 0x108f48 : 0x128d08 (0x3cb134 0x108f6c 0x131de5 0x0) 0x108f48 : 0x1aa86a (0x3d1bf8 0x364 0xbfe9fbff 0x0) 0x108fa8 : 0x3bb933 (0xdb 0x146e3c28 0x57e000 0x0) 0x108fe8 : 0x19aef0 (0x146e3c28 0x146e3c28 0x57e00 0x0) 0x146e3c88 : 0x248bc79a (0x2d91e44 0x1 0xfff 0x0) 0x146e3c88 : 0x248bb522 (0x8 0x2 0x420 0x138bee) 0x146e3fc8 :0x16ac1c (0x2f96360 0x0 0x19e0b5 0x2d7f348) Backtrace Terminated-Invalid framepointer 0x0 Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies): com.apple.driver.applertc(1.0.3)@0x2a592000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.acpi.IOACPIFamily(1.2.0)@0x24869000 Com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform(1.0.3)@248a4000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.1)0x24856000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.acpi.IOACPIFamily(1.2.0)@0x24869000 Kernel Version: Darwin Kernel Version 8.9.1: Thu Mar 15 20:55:00 PST 2007; netkas: 792.18.15~1/RELEASE_I386 When updating to the new kernel is the old one saved somewhere on the volume or is it deleted? My System Specs Are: Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427 Intel Core Duo T2250 @ 1.8 GHz with 533MHz FSB 1024Mb DDR2 667 Ram 120 gb hd I think thats the same problem Im having even if I dont select the 10.4.9 kernel .. I tried the upgrade on a fresh installed 10.4.8 also. How did you get the exact error message written down ? Maybe I need to wait a little longer until things have been more tested and another package with patches is released soon ?
lunchandamovie
Kiko, your installation (and the original Apple update package) end abruptly with a "Please try again" message, then I can't open up any apps, mount dmgs, reboot into Tiger, and am screwed. I tried it two times with a fresh install, but still says try again. Installing it the 3 time messed up my 3rd partition so now i can't mount it using 10.4.8 with Intel 3.0 P4 with SSE3 (GMA900). mifki
check the md5 of the tar gz file, because it works for most people. and look in the install log and see where it fails
lunchandamovie
It said that it quit as it was writing the reciept so I'm like "so?" I restart and it got stuck again. So I power off, restart and....it works! "it works?! OMG i could have avoided damaging my 3rd partition if i had simply rebooted a 2ND TIME?!" Thanks for the tip Kiko. Now to do some side repair. -straps on toolbelt-

murcielago585
everythign works perfect here and that's with the 8.9.1 kernel. as if nothing even got changed. First time i see info in the Harware overview section of the system profiler and it seems to be right about my setup.

Guest BuildSmart
Yeah, all updates need two rebootsA script in the /System/Library folder to handle the reboot and self-delete. You can examine the 10.4.8 update to see how it's done.
lunchandamovie
okay i lied it doesn't work fully. i reboot twice and it works but after that i reboot again it hangs. i'll figure it out right now. BUT how do you check your current kernel version? and how exactly do you get to the irc chat :lost:

lunchandamovie
for terminal version type: uname -a in terminal, and for irc, follow the chat links on this forum Awesome thanks. Last question: I finally figured out how to update without ne problems, but installer still crashes on receipts. any idea what can cause it? Edit: Nothing USB now works. Even in System Profile it says no information found on USB. My built in card reader doesn't work either.

Turbo50t
Kiko update worked great for me, everything worked out of the box except wireless and I lost QE/CI support. I got the wireless working with a little tinkering, but can not get QE/CI support working, any one have any ideas?
