Seems I get RESTART screen (could be APCI error) selecting or not selecting the 10.4.9 kernel

Maybe I need to get the 10.4.9 Kernel itself first and keep checking in how to fix this problem

I downloaded the new kiko update off of demonoid and installed the 10.4.9 kernel and I seem to be having trouble with the new 8.9.1 kernel because after the update I get this kernel panic:

Panic(cpu 0 caller 0x01AA86A): Local APIC error

When updating to the new kernel is the old one saved somewhere on the volume or is it deleted?

My System Specs Are:

Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427

Intel Core Duo T2250 @ 1.8 GHz with 533MHz FSB

1024Mb DDR2 667 Ram

120 gb hd

I think thats the same problem Im having even if I dont select the 10.4.9 kernel .. I tried the upgrade on a fresh installed 10.4.8 also.

How did you get the exact error message written down ?

Maybe I need to wait a little longer until things have been more tested and another package with patches is released soon ?

Kiko, your installation (and the original Apple update package) end abruptly with a "Please try again" message, then I can't open up any apps, mount dmgs, reboot into Tiger, and am screwed. I tried it two times with a fresh install, but still says try again. Installing it the 3 time messed up my 3rd partition so now i can't mount it :P

using 10.4.8 with Intel 3.0 P4 with SSE3 (GMA900).

It said that it quit as it was writing the reciept so I'm like "so?" I restart and it got stuck again. So I power off, restart and....it works! "it works?! OMG i could have avoided damaging my 3rd partition if i had simply rebooted a 2ND TIME?!"

Thanks for the tip Kiko. Now to do some side repair. -straps on toolbelt-

Yeah, all updates need two reboots
A script in the /System/Library folder to handle the reboot and self-delete.

You can examine the 10.4.8 update to see how it's done.

for terminal version type: uname -a in terminal, and for irc, follow the chat links on this forum

Awesome thanks. Last question: I finally figured out how to update without ne problems, but installer still crashes on receipts. any idea what can cause it?

Edit: Nothing USB now works. Even in System Profile it says no information found on USB. :) My built in card reader doesn't work either.

hey people really sorry but im a n00b here, i had troubles with 10.4.8 last time i installed it on my dell 6400/e1505 no usb (with fix or without fix), no ethernet working out of the box, etc etc. is it still best to install 10.4.8 rather then 10.4.6 (pritty much everything but wireless and 2x cpu work out of the box) and then update to 10.4.9?? also when i install the update is the kernal updated automaticly? is their some sort of step by step guide? so sorry again :(:D

Did you guys ever figure this out? I am also getting the same thing...

UPDATE ----- I did find this from another thread, looks like my issue.. Issues with 10.4.9 kernel and certain BIOS from Dell

Seems I get RESTART screen (could be APCI error) selecting or not selecting the 10.4.9 kernel

Maybe I need to get the 10.4.9 Kernel itself first and keep checking in how to fix this problem

Hi there....

i've still no luck with 10.4.9 on the ASROCK Conroe945G-DVI with Intel Celeron 3.06Ghz.

I tried different methods how to upgrade to 10.4.9 with backup the /System/Library/Extentions/ etc.

When i reboot , following message came up:

"using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO beuffer heards"

the system stops, any idea , any link , any "working" howto?

thanxx..

Same problem for me with centrino 1.6 (Sse2)

:thumbsup_anim: Kiko update worked great for me, everything worked out of the box except wireless and I lost QE/CI support. I got the wireless working with a little tinkering, but can not get QE/CI support working, any one have any ideas? :P
