Sorry if I'm not in the right thread.

I've built my hackintosh but, it doesn't look like one. I would like to get a case that resembles a mac case. Either G4 or G5 I like them both. I wish the G5 had the mobo drop down side panel thing, that was awesome. Anyway links to website or sumthing would be greatly appreciated. I bought a PowerMac Quicksilver (mirror doors) case it is too far beyond my abilities to mod it for a pc. I am going to sell it for $50.00 on ebay but I haven't yet. It is great shape I never used it and it has only one small scratch on the back that u can't even see. If you are interested let me know. the shipping would be free and I have a paypal.

if you cant do a g4 quciksilver what make you think a g5 case is any easier?

the quicksilver atleast has many plastic parts to cover up your mistakes.

as for the g5 or mac pro case. those puppies are 80% 1 piece of aluminum. scratches easily also.

so unless you are really skilled in aluminum fabrications id stick to the quciksilver or even use g3 cases.

  • 3 weeks later...

i had a G3 one, i think it was too small for the ATX mobos, the psu got in the way and there was barely any area to work with. oh and you had to do some modding as u have to bolt the mobo on a certain way (didn't bother, trashed the case it was fun, had a few spare cherry bombs but anyways...) yeah.

here a few that look similar to mac cases

I think you want to be going for something that looks better than. That of course is difficult. What looks better than a Mac? The Asus case at least has simplicity on its side, which is what the whole Mac experience is all about. I went for a black Coolermaster case which I will link to in a moment but first consider

That would look good in a minimalist architect office. Mesh use them in this country. It also comes in Brush aluminium but I don't want a box that looks like its sister is a saucepan in MY room! If I had to, though, I would probably go for the cut down version of this Cooler Master case

I have a black version without the tomb stone; I have just the elegant S face plate.

Ah, here it is.

The pictures, as you come to expect of the otherwise seemingly excellent newegg (I say 'seemingly' because we don't have newegg in this country) are typically poor. For instance, click on the last pic. It implies the case is tri-tone, grays and blacks. In fact it is dark gloss slightly brushed metal black with a gray panel that I think can be removed. It has a mirror line that I'm not crazy about but I can live with it. No screws, very easy to put together and high grade metal makes for reduced vibration and low noise (albeit not silent). I have seen it for $63 online. If only they made it in white! It's a little on the big side and if I make another Hackintosh I will go for short form, something like a Mac Mini. Heck, if they put even a semi decent graphics card in it I would go out and buy a second Mac Mini tomorrow!

Actually, modding a G4 case is not all that hard. I tend to be all thumbs but I still managed to mod an old G4 Quicksilver case to my Hackintosh. Really, all you need is a dremel, a drill (with metal bits), time and patience. I am about 95% complete on my mod, as soon as it is all complete, I will describe what I did, how I did it and provide lots of pix but for now, I need to finish the mod.

Take a look at the work so far. To see the photo in better detail, drag the image to your desktop and open it up. And since the space that is hosting the webpage is free, it does tend to get clogged by high traffic, something else I am working on (just come back at a later time) LEt me know what you think.
