This is a total guide for Acer Aspire 5570xx series laptops

for Installation and to function with 10.4.8 kernel with full support.

What do we need:

1- 10.4.7 JAS dvd, or any other 10.4.4xx DVD that works for you.

2- Apple Intel 10.4.8 Combo Update

3- DemonES 10.4.8 Kernel (Although Semtex kernel works at the moment, It causes

random kernel panics)

[DeamonES Kernel Running for 3 days, Stable.]

-> You can use the EGWAN patcher to extract the DemonES Kernel

obtain it from his blog. (egwan.freeflux.net)

4- AppleSMBIOS.kext (from Paulicat's Blog)

5- IOATAFamily.kext (from Paulicats's Blog)

6- AUDIO: ALC883AUDIO.pkg from this thread

7- WIRELESS: IO80211Familiy.kext from this post

8- Power Management Bundle from this post

STEP 1:

Boot your Jas 10.4.7 DVD and install by choosing the following customizations only:

a- INTEL SSE3

b- 10.4.7 COMBO Update

c- GMA 900 Package

(-before you setup any of your devices, update to 10.4.8 since everything

you do before the update (kext related) will be replaced by the update.)

STEP 2:

Backup some of your data for later use.

a- Backup your Extensions Folder

By using the terminal, execute the following commands

sudo -s

mkdir /backup

cp -R /System/Library/Extensions/* /backup

STEP 3:

a- Now Install the 10.4.8 Intel Combo Update

( DONT RESTART WHEN IT FINISHES) We need a little more work before restart.

b- Go to your /System/Library/Extensions folder and delete IOPCCardFamily.kext

(this kext prevents your laptop from booting to 10.4.8 kernel by causing kernel panic)

c- Backup the Apple's orginal kernel and Replace with DeamonES kernel.

execute the following commands in the terminal

mv /mach_kernel /mach_kernel.unpatched

cp /location/to/your/DeamonES kernel /mach_kernel

d- Restore the GMA950 functionality by executing the following command

cp -R /backup/AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext /System/Library/Extensions

rm -fr /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntel915.kext

e- Copy the AppleSMBIOS.kext to /System/Library/Extensions

f- IOATAFamily.kext to /System/Library/Extensions

STEP 4:

a- Open your diskutility and repair permissions

b- reboot

Note: OSX will restart on its own once while on the Grey apple screen.

Dont be alarmed.

STEP 5:

Boot into your 10.4.8 Installation.

a - AUDIO: Run the ALC883AUDIO.pkg by selecting 3port from the customize menu.

b - WIRELESS: Replace the IO80211Familiy.kext in /System/Library/Extensions

with the one you obtained from the post.

Execute the following commands after replacing the file

cd /System/Library/Extensions

chmod -R 755 IO80211family.kext

chown -R root:wheel IO80211family.kext

c- After, load the Atheros kext by executing the following commands:

cd IO80211Family.kext/contents/plugins

kextload AirPortAtheros5424.kext

d- We still need to edit the network preferances.plist

go to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration

open the file " NetworkInterfaces.plist " with TextEdit

The middle part should be edited by replacing 0 with 1 as such:

<key>BSD Name</key>
 <string>en1</string>
 <key>IOBuiltin</key>
 <false/>
 <key>IOInterfaceType</key>
 <integer>6</integer>
 <key>IOInterfaceUnit</key>
 <integer>1</integer>
 <key>IOLocation</key>
 <string></string>
 <key>IOMACAddress</key>
 <data>
 ABl9QCwL
 </data>
 <key>IOPathMatch</key>

e- Save Changes to the plist and close.

f- PowerManagement: replace the Powermanagementbundle with the one

provided in the post.

navigate to /System/Library/SystemConfiguration

and replace the file

g - Open disk Utility and Repair Permissions.

REBOOT

Audio, Wireless, Lan, Video should be working after the reboot.

open network preferances and set up your wireless connection.

Battery indicator should apper on the taskbar. if not open

system preferences and under energy saver, you can

put it to the tasbar.

Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me for any problems or questions.

I have been experimenting with different kernels,

Semtex B9 also is working without problems.

The first version of the speedstep kernel was the source of the random panics.

First off, thank you for the guide and all your hard work.

Purchased a 5570z and was encouraged by your experience this would go pretty smooth.

I've tried a variety of things with JAS 10.4.8 & Uphuck v1.3, based on your posts, guide and official threads JAS & 1.3, but have been unable to get wifi & ethernet & sound on my 5570z.

Having been without Vista I couldn't get to the detail specs, but, they are:

Acer 5570z-2609

with

Atheros AR5007EG wireless

Marvell Yukon 88E8038 PCI-E fast ethernet

Realtek High Definition sound (that's all it says)

I appreciate any advice you may be able to offer.

Hi Everyone, I have a 5570-2977, as you may know, there's no way (yet), to make this laptop to recognize the Onboard LAN nor the Wireless one (Yukon 5038 and Atheros 5007EG). I've been trying with Uphuck 1.4i R3 and with Jas 10.4.8 ppf1+ppf2.

The second one was a lot more reliable than Uphuck for this laptop.

After installation of Jas 10.4.8, you can go up to 10.4.9 with this method (you can replace the kernel, recommended):

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...c=45283&hl=

Don't forget to backup and replace your AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext or you won't be able to boot into the desktop again!

Ok, for Audio: you can use Tarugas Patcher 1.16 and the file below (linux codec dump of my ACER ALC883).

(All the inputs work and the output only works trough headphones, I've asked Tarugas for help with internal speakers, if you use Skippyretard package for ALC883, select 6 outputs analog and you'll hear audio from the internal speakers but nothing else)

For SpeedStep, you can use the ACPICPUThrottle.kext file below (don't have to replace the kernel)

For PCMCIA, I'm adding my files for PCIFamily and PCCard too. It's working 100%, I'm writing this message from a wireless D-Link DWL-G650 atheros based (detected as Airport Extreme), working on the Cardbus slot.

Hopefully we'll have the answer from Tarugas for 100% supported audio. For the other stuff (onboard LAN and WIRELESS), I think the problem is on the PCI-E not being recognized. For now we can use USB solutions and the PCMCIA/CARDBUS slot.

Good Luck!

P.S: please repair permissions for every kext you replace with the usual methods!!!!!

I have a 5570z (5570-2094). neither wireless or PCMCIA work using the procedures in this thread. I own a Dell 1390 PCI express, Atheros AR5007 PCIE, Apple Airport Atheros AR5006 PCIE and a Netgear WG511T PCMCIA. does anyone have any form of internet connectivity working on a pci-e based acer 5570/3680 series? would any of these cards work?

Hi, I own the exact same model as you do. However, I am a newbie. Could you point me to a post that talks more details about replaceing files and activating the PCMCIA slot? sorry, i do not know much about the usual method and repairing the permission.

I have leopard 10.5.1 installed. so far the audio works fine

, but PCMCIA is not working.

Thanks.
