How many using MacOS as their main OS ?

I just wondered how many of you guys are using MacOS as their main OS on their PC. I installed 10.4.6, which ran perfectly fine but I didn't use it long enough to know how "pratical" it is to use it daily compared to WinXP for instance. I believe most would dual-boot Windows but do you guys feel confident storing important information in you MacOS partition for instance ?

No flamewar intended, just curious how many of you guys jumped the Windows ship for good.

Cheerio.

I have 10.4.7 installed. Ive always kinda hated Windows and Im not that good with linux right now so when I installed mac on my PC in November, I started using it full time as my main OS. I knew about it enough that this transition wasnt really that hard.

OS X is my main OS. I can't imagine life without it.

Granted, its running on a G4. I'm typing this in Firefox on Windows2003R2 since the G4 is slow. Its why I'm into OS X86. It runs on two of my computers, but one is nForce4 and has poor SATA support, and the other doesn't support the GMA900 and speedstep well enough to be usable in the environment (it has to be quiet). I'll build a machine!

I used 10.4.7 for about three weeks, then got frustrated because I couldn't make my SoundBlaster card work or get QE/CI on my ATI Radeon X850.

So I bought a Macbook Pro! OSX KICKS ASS. :) I only use Windows for the occasional game, plus a Warcraft III chat bot which runs in Parallels.

I installed OS X around November last year and since then I use it about 90% of the time, even though some of it still doesn't work properly. I also boot up Windows XP and Linux on my PC, but OS X is by far the most stable of the three. Go figure, the PC was designed for Windows, but OS X just runs better. The next machine I buy will be a MAC.

I have been running JaS 10.4. on my Dell Dimension 4550 for about a week now. I bought a Macbook C2D about 2 months ago, and have never looked back. If I couldn't have installed OSX on my Dell, it would still be sitting downstairs collecting dust. I am working on another Hackintosh as we speak, considering the wonderful results I have had so far. OSX is the only OS for me. I will never go back to winblows.

I started with 10.4.6 (then upgraded to 10.4.7 Server just to see if it could be done) as a dual boot with XP. I am sold on MacOS, but I can't dump Windows yet because the rest of my equipment doesn't support SSE2, SSE3 (too old). Whenever I manage to upgrade my equipment, I'm dumping Windows for good.

Like DiaboliK, I too started this trek near the beginning. From my first 6Gb Deadmoo install to the 10.4.8 I'm currently running, I come to truly enjoy this OS. At first I did the same sort of stuff most new folks here do - carve out just enough disk to install the OS - not much more. I tried just about every dual-boot scheme used here. And then one day, I realized that I'd not booted my Windoze partition for over 3 months...

Over time, I've found that this hacked, unsupported, non-standard OS is so much smoother, SO much more stable, and so much of a joy to use that I've moved completely off M$. Now I have over 2Tb of Mac Disk space - internal SATAs, external USB & Firewire - and it all just works.

Other than the times when I've just done some really boneheaded thing, I've never had a crash, never lost any data, and never had that sickly feeling in the pit of my stomach I always have when using a M$ product.

As a long time UNIX user (back to when SunOS was BSD-based), I feel right at home with MacOS - lots of power which is slightly below the surface. I've come to really appreciate the amount of thought & work that has gone into the creation of this OS. It is without a doubt the finest user environment I've ever used...

Do I own a "real" Mac yet? No, but my next computer will be one of the next-gen Mac Pros. I seriously doubt I'll ever willingly use a M$ Windoze product again...

I used to be a Mac person, since the good old Macintosh II era. I sort of gave up when System 8 was still around and System 9 was still new, for the fact that price of PC hardwares dropped like there is no tomorrow, you can always pick up some still-very-fast PC hardwares which are just one or two generation behind for a huge bargain. I purchased an iBook 2 years ago, and I use it for all of my online business and financial logins for that a lot less people are interested to hack because of small installation base.

You can imagine how delightful I am now, running the latest Mac OS X on a IBM Thinkcentre which only cost me something like USD$50.00 from a liquidation auction!

And yes, OS X is my main OS now!

Guys, thanks all for your feedback. I got a copy of Mac OS 10.4.8 (Jas's) since my post and I must say things have improved a lot since 10.4.6 since I now have Quartz Extreme for my NVidia display card. Nearly all the programs I use in Windows have an equivalent in MacOSX now, I wish TrueCrypt (disk encryption) was there but they're supposedely working on it.

I'm more of a Linux guy personally so I'm not yet familiar with applications available but I often find some very cool ones, especially in the open source camp, I even found an app to connect to my Zen Vision:M, supposed to be compatible only with WinXP.

Hope I'll be as brave as you guys and definitely do the switch as well.

Thanks all for your enlightment.

Cheerio.

Well... I've been in the Windows-to-Mac emulation scene since 1999... after that I even used PearPC for a while... and of course OS X became my main OS since 10.4.1. When first version of Parallels was released, I finally cleaned up my Windows partition. Since then, in my hard drive Windows exists only as a 6 gb disk image, just in case. I'd never go back to that hell.

I've been shunning windows ever since 10.4.1 got my attention.. now that it's gone so far with qe/ci and all that i don't even use windows for a quick game [i can do it on my hackintosh :)], with that in mind screw winders and hooray for osx86, i plan on buying a real mac as well [saving up the pennies :D]

Once I can buy a real mac, I'll probably put windows back on this machine for gaming purposes and just use my future macbook pro as my primary machine.. it would be faster than this rig anyway at the moment.

I'm saving the money and waiting for them to come out with Leopard.

I've been using MacOS as my primary OS for about a month now. I'm running 10.4.8 and loving it. Just yesterday I removed Parallels along with the windows disk image as I had gone into windows a whole one time since installing it. The OS is fast to boot, fast to accomplish tasks, clean, simple, and things just work.
