Hi there,

I am just wondering... i currently have a dell workstation and my ATI FireGL v3100 card does not work after install osx x86. I am wondering instead of getting a PC graphics card and installing the natit drivers. Will it be possible if I just get a REAL Mac graphics card say "Radeon 9200 Mac Edition with PCI slot 256meg"

My question is :

1) Does a MAC PCI base graphics card be able to plug into a PC mobo with a PCI express slot?

2) If the card can be used, has anyone here try it before and install the real MAC drivers into the x86 and got it working and behaving like a real mac.

Hope someone can help me on this as I am new to mac. Thanks so much.

No, they have incompatible firmware. You could use a MacPro 7300gt or many off the shelf video card with Titan

That's what I use. I would have gone for an off the shelf card but compatability is hit or miss. Plus i got it eBay fro 35 bucks.

New Mac cards contain both efi and bios support in their firmware. So, yes it will work in windows and in MacOs and you will have multiple resolution support and quartz core etc. Keep in mind that natit or titan will work equally as well with many other cards. I'm just using an Apple one because I found it cheap.

  • 1 year later...

It's taken me 2 weeks to find this thread to answer the simple question of whether or not a PCIe video card would work with a Hackintosh (used to be called Frankenmac in the PPC days).

user2,

I have a couple of questions for you (hopefully you'll see this!!!):

What kind of graphics performance do you get in Windows (XP or Vista, if you even boot into either OS)

and

Is the nvidia forceware driver compatible?

Thanks!
