C’mon, you know who you are?

You are Pro, Semi-Pro, Prosumer, or any of the previous, you turn on your PC because it has certain programs, or plug-ins, or better graphics but lets face it, you would rather be using your Mac and wish it did this or that program in SPLIT SCREEN mode. And sometimes you find excuses, (Vista or no Vista, just to use the MAC when you know you should be working on the PC which still gives a memory error now and then, (BSD and HEX Memory Dump (LOL).

C’mon, lets here it, are you one. I am!!! Its not like it used to be, MAC=SLOWER, this is no longer the case. They are rolling out new macs every month it seems, or at least as fast as INTEL has a new launch.

I have so much invested in audio plugins though that I haven’t quite caught up to MAC yet. Am using the HacknTosh, checking out warez, seeing what I will buy and not buy, then I think Maybe 1st purchase a MB, then iMAC, then M Pro, and somewhere in-between, an iPhone.

My PC will now celebrate its 5th anniversary. I dont hate my PC as such. I only use it for games, or for a few programs. But there simply are some things that Windows just does better, and I appreciate it for that. I mean like VirtualDub, or Office 2007, CUESplitter, etc. Yes, Windows is very unstable compared to Mac. But I cannot say I hate it.

For example: Today my external drive needed to be written on by Mac. Being in NTFS, writing is very slow (1MBPS). So I had to boot to Windows, backup the data and format it to FAT32. Mac wanted to repartition the whole drive and then format it to FAT32. Just erasing was not an option for some reason.

My Desktop PC is no slouch, but I still prefer to use my real Mac for OS X sake, and I prefer not to use windows if at all possible these days.

Today my parents are coming up here to college to visit me and I'm sending home my Desktop and keeping the two 500GB HD's here so I can swap them in and out of my external enclosure to get data moved around and then leave them in my closet or something until I go home next.

I leave my two windows desktops off the majority of time and the laptop only for web surfing from the couch. One desktop I used for games before I got my 360. now I turn it on just to grab a few files (it's still fast but less used since my exploration of osx). The other is a file/media server, but just the same as the other desktop I have little to no need for it since my hackintosh works for everything I need (it's not even SSE or I'd put osx on it). I might pull the hd's and put them to better use. The laptop I loath and want to throw it out the window into traffic. I need to put osx back on it (Dell D600 pentium m 512mb radeon 9000 32mb didn't buy it, it was provided by my school)

I don't hate my PC's. The only reason I installed OS X was so I could take it to school (because we use iMacs at school and It's good to have a computer that is compatible) My computer hardly ever screws up, probably around the same or less than our iMacs at school do. And everybody is jealous that I have OS X on my laptop, which is funny.

I mainly turned to Apple because I wanted to do the whole producer thing: I had just gotten into photoshop (this is 3 years ago, BTW) and I found I was quite the creative talent. In a sense, the computer became the paintbrush and the canvas. I looked at continuing this creative urge by moving into editing videos, making music, the likes. I was already into creating web-pages for some time in Frontpage and it was time to look to bigger and better things.

Around two years ago I bought my last PC: a HP Pavilion dv4040ca which I never really liked. I wanted to get a Powerbook, but it was too hard (at the time) to convince my parents that I wanted this machine that was basically unfamiliar to them (not so much to me, I knew I would learn quickly, and I had used Classic Mac OS for years and years before).

I knew the Powerbook would allow my to do greater things with a coputer, but I sucked it up. I began making Windows look like Mac OS X through anything I could get my hands on. Eventually, it became too resource intensive and I uninstalled everything. I figures I should focus my efforts to turning my computer into a Mac. I was familiar with the hardware in a Mac... so I turned to Pear PC and began emulating it! I really dove into it... I had a whole acount set up and everything and I got a little taste of what the Mac life would be like. (I had an iPod, by the way, so I understood how nicely a Mac would complete my digital life.

Then, a month or two later, rumors of Apple switching to x86 began surfacing. It was all hush-hush then: I'm sure very few people even heard them. But I digress: I was skeptic yet hopeful. At the same time, I continued to be a part of the PearPC scene in emulating a real Mac.

And then I abandoned them.

Steve announced they were gonna switch, and I went nuts! My very first thoughts (before this site was even an idea!) were, "I'll be able to turn my HP into a Mac! No matter what, this'll be better than emulation!"

The rest is easy to figure out: I achieved my goal in having a more-or-less "true" Macintoch, but as I moved my digital life over to Mac OS X, I promised myself that I would get a Mac soon enough, and rid myself of all PCs in my life.

And so, I sold all my PCs and have 3 Macs: a Powerbook G4 12" (my main computer), a Mac mini Duo(for enoding and to manage media/streaming content), and an iMac Core Duo (family computer). I don't run windows on any of them.

The truth is, even before my "transition" started 3 years ago, I had always been a Mac fan: speding entire hours using one at the nearest retailer who carried them, knowing all the harware and software features since years before, using them all through elementary school and emulating the Classic Mac OS full-screen on all my computers (up to Mac OS 8!) and knowing how to use that like the back of my hand. And get this: I NEVER LIKED WINDOWS! I remember, even as a 10 year old, telling my father how little I thought of the world's most popular OS and how Mac was better because of how it never crashed, etc. Even at 10!!! I've always been an Apple fan, and now that I'm older and have control of my bank account and life, I've finally spoiled myself with all the Macs I want and I'm living the digital dream! Yes, I can now edit all the video I want, mix tracks, create DVDs at lightning speed... I have the coolest paintbrush and the largest canvas!

So to answer the question: I don't have a PC!!! And I never will!!!

There's my story,

I disliked using Vista and Windows XP feels lacking now... OSX86 gives me "YOU NEED TO SHUTDOWN YOUR COMPUTER." , Linux doesn't work well on this machine. It's a Asus S96J.

I guess I'm screwed :-x

I have OSX86 working on my cheapy system I built. Going to use that for iLife.

I usually don't hate my PC, I only do when it runs on MICROS*FT! :pirate2: Putting my good hardware to waste! Now that I run OSX86 I have learned the word "loathe" and freely use it to express my emotions on Winblowz. Now if Apple could only price their products accordingly...

Why do you people start threads like this? I hate Windows, Vista Blows, Microsoft is bloated..Why Windows sucks, etc, etc...I can keep going forever... what's the whole point of thread likes this? Everybody has their own personal opinions and it's just opinions. It doesn't matter if 10 guys hate it and 5 guy love it. It's all a matter of what you think and not what other people think. You stop using Windows because you like Mac better?? great good for you. The same goes the other way. But stop the hate because my pc is slow, bsod all the time, blah blah blah blah.

Most of the PC troubles come from the USER. Yes the User. If you have a problem with your PC is because you are not PC smart to solve it and not smart enough to create a solution to solve it. I have worked with every single OS from BSD, SCO, Linux, Solaris, Macs, PCs, Windows and there are lot of + and - for all the OS. But hate one? C'mom.. just learn to use them. I dont wanna hear people say I have used X for like 50 years and I know everything about it. If you have worked, used, something for and X amount of years and cant solve a problem then you are just mentally deficient.

An example is the guy that had to spend 50 bucks for a Dell fan because of the cable..and he calls his PC POS because of it. Well didn't it cross your mind that you could have cut the cables from your old case and attach them to a 8 dollars fan and your problem is solved?

My Windows XP PC is awesome. Never ever crashes and I can do everything I need to use it for it. I can solve almost all the problem..and I had uptimes of more than 6-7 months. But I use MacOSX a lot too. Why?? because i have so many problems with MacOSX that I want to solve the problems. Windows became boring because it's too damn stable. Hate it?? No...

In my years in IT. I have met so many people they say they hate PCs because they can't do this. You show them how to do it, and they are like Whoa... if they can't do something...you write a script, write a program or find a program and they are happy.

Dont take me wrong..MacOSX is awesome too. But it also has a lot of negative points just like any other OS.

Hatred/Dislike comes from LACK of knowledge.

FLAMES AWAY.

Me too, I agree with it, awesome respond! I try all type of OS, Mac, Linux and Windows because I want to learn as much as I can. Each platform gave me different problem and hey, it make me become more knowledable than the people that only stuck to one platform!

Wait a minute, wait a minute, hold it hold it, hold it.....LOL...

First, the BSOD is due to drivers sometimes, and now VISTA requires all hardware vendors to be certified, so that may solve some of those issues, that said, the OS's are different.

I have a rock stable PC for audio (NUENDO, HIGH END FIREWIRE AUDIO INTERFACE), and rarely crashes (the hackntosh crashed twice in 6 months, anyway).....

Sure, maybe its preference, but have a lot of folders open, mouse to top right and they all dissapear, not so in XP or VISTA.

ALT/APPLE on a folder and they all shut down, not so in VISTA or XP.

Bring back all open programs, mouse over on bottom left, not so on XP or VISTA.

Want to hide a window and have it genie just double click on OSX and it goes to task bar.

Then of course, the biggest thing for me is APPLE TAB to open close programs, windows, even vista is still awkward and uses alt/F3 and you can't re-sing it anywhere........

Plus, as the commercial states, secret service guy, I did use Vista and you get a pop up for everything you try and do, disable it and there goes the security........plus, and knowone knows why this is, and we debate this on GEARSLUTZ . COM (audio website), record something on XP or VISTA, then on MAC, on a MAC is sounds fuller, rounder, knowone knows why, it just does, and yes, it is still a bunch of zeros and ones, but it must have something to do with COREAUDIO.

That is just my 02. cents.

:-)

90% of the things you describe merely prove ppan76's point. I'm not even going to bother arguing with any of them except one, to serve as an example for the rest of them: maybe I don't want my damn windows to "genie". Maybe it's a stupid waste of my time to watch my windows tear and shear poorly as they swerve and idioticly suck into the dock. Or maybe I like that. Who cares? It's preference.

Fine, well just wait till you try Vista, run into DRm problems, pop ups for everything you do, so you disable and poof, along come the virus' and this does not include how fast OSX boots up plus the SUITE of software that comes with OSX vs MSFT. Bios is like so old dude. The only good thing I found in vista were two things, 1) Search (which should be on top right, not bottom left) 2) That you can connect a network and or network printer without using and having to set up the ip address. Something that MAC does very well and from the articles Ive read, the new MAC OS due out in the 2nd half of this year will apparent;t eclipse Vista huge and make Vista look bloated even more so, which it is. Then there is the dreaded .dll file, for servers, they use UNIX, not MSFT, sure maybe in house networks, but its UNIX, all major ISP's use UNIX. So its more than just preferences.

You would think with Apple releasing OS's every year, now releasing new products as fast as I can ever remember that Vista should have been a WOW, it is not, is is a NULL.

If Apple comes out with dumping GMA and moving to a price point GAP with decent GAMING RIG at a reasonable price, I say they gain even more market share.

05 3%, 2006 6% with 50% being switchers.

All apple needs to do is update the GMA to a ATI or NVIDIA in all products lines and reduce the prices and they will garner the gaming (HUGE MONEY SEGMENT) and double there market share in no time.

Word to the wise, with iPHONE 200+ patients, jolining forces with Yahoo and GOOGLE, being #4 overall in music (online distribution), Apple getting Emagic Logic, and Final Cut pro, if your in the entertainment or graphic arts business, time to learn a Mac. Apple dumped the word computer in their name, it is much more now that just computers. Apple is going to get more and more market share and Vista will leave a sour taste in some peoples mouths.......and soon Apple will be everywhere.

Just my .02 cents.

Oh and CoreAudio blows away Microsofts audio drivers. It just does.

You still need to take 2-5 steps to apples 1-2 steps (clicks) to accomplish many things and Vista has been five whole years and there is nothing breakthough at all and now, Apple has the fastest computers. If they add overclocking for the enthusiast, gaming, its over. Apple will win.

And this my friend is not personal preferences, this is business and Apple means it.

look for 10% by end of 2007.
