mchouin
I will soon be posting a complete guide on how to install osx86 on a computer with an ATi x200 chipset. I know of the HP/Compaq resource page, but this guide will all be in one place and will be easy to follow. Check out my blog in a few days and it should be there. moby3
Hi, does it work for the x300 SE ?? Cu moby
errandwolfe
Mchouin, great idea. I put together one WAY back on 10.4.4 but it is extremely dated. An up to date installation guide for the x200 is a fantastic idea. If you need any help putting it together just PM me. I think at the top in big bold letters you need to stress though that QE/CI is nowhere near functional with the x200. TRUST ME, it will cut down on a LOT of needless questions in the forum. Moby....Why on earth would you ask a person who clearly states the install guide is for the x200 if it will work on the x300. That is like asking if the same instruction for getting a Radeon 9550 working will work for an x1600. They are two separate systems and while their may be some similarities the same guide will not work for an x200 as an x300. Not to mention there are at least 10-15 different tutorials on this site already on how to get the x300 to work. I would suggest taking a look in the Genius Bar. squimmy
My god - I have been trying for AGES to get a working install on my x200 chipset. I would be ETERNALLY grateful beyond belief if you could put together a working guide. Thank you so much in advance. Now, back to trying to get a cd to boot well.... mchouin
Slight delay: i was going to use Jas 10.4.6 as the basis for my tutorial, but after some thinking, i decided that this version is sort of old so i am currently downloading 10.4.8 final from tubgirl. sorry for the delay for those who were hoping to see this tutorial sooner, but i should have it up this week. keep checking back! errandwolfe
Mchouin, I would strongly suggest using the LATEST JaS 10.4.8. Out of all the distros I have tried that had the most working "out of the box" when I installed on my x200 system.
mchouin
Am I downloading the right version then? If not, where can I find this latest version? (i tried searching the usual places)
errandwolfe
I will PM you a link.
andnever344
i used the amd final version and not only did i not have to use the scousi patch just to get it to see the HD but sound worked out of the box.
mchouin
According to errandwolfe, the version that I am now downloading (Jas 10.4.8 with v1p and Deviant Disk Utility Patches attached) is the best for those with the x200 chipset. The only drawback is that it's going to take more than a few days to complete which will delay the tutorial even more...

errandwolfe
The last thing I heard was that Mchouin was still trying to download the JaS 10.4.8 image, but it was going very slowly. People are not seeding this anywhere near the levels of when it was first released.
mchouin
yep, still downloading...sorry guys, since no one is seeding I'm only at 54%. Ill keep you updated.
schotty
Did it complete yet? I have an iso I can share for you since I would greatly appreciate any FAQ/Howto for the x200 (or any guides that get me somewhere ;D ). I can setup a private FTP or something to letch you the iso if need be.
mchouin
Thanks schotty, but I'm at 79.3% and it's downloading faster now. Should be done by tomorrow...Then, I can finally get started on this tutorial

The Dew
Just one questions: What happens with your using the x200 series chipset? I am using the chipset and I get stupid ACPI errors, is that what happens or is there another problem.
mchouin
Yeah, i have gotten those errors with my computer. I found that those can be fixed by deleting the extensions.mkext and extensions.kextcache every time you boot up. If you forget to do that, try booting with -f. Not only are the ACPI errors a problem with the x200 chipset but sound and usb have been a problem in the past. According to errandwolfe, the version I am downloading now works best with the x200 and has the most working "out of the box". I am currently at 93% and I plan on starting the guide on wedsnesday night since I have a number of exams on tuesday and wedsnesday.

I am using JaS.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3. I also have Mac.OS.X.Tiger.10.4.6.X86-HOTiSO and Mac-OS-X-10.4.7-AMD.Intel-(JaS)-ISO-Repack which is the only one that booted up in Vmware.
