JoeyKing
I can't ge it to work... Disk 0: some OsX's Disk 1: a Vista 64 , a XP, a Vista 32, another XP... all on S-ATA, not IDE! I set up parallels for a Vista OS: boots from from bootsector, great. But whatever I want to boot it says either that - ..../system32/winload.exe is corrupt (for Vista 32 bit) - or ...hal.dll is corrupt - or for Vista 64: that the loader for Vista only works on 64 bit...what I have. booting directly everything works fine. Can onyone cofnirm success with an alike config? i.e osX on one HD, the windows'es on the other and both are S-ATA, no IDE. Thanks Joey
maverickds
Working right of the bat Amazing!!! takes a long time to load though. just do as the guide says but change media = 1 (for some reason mine was already like that.) but i used a newer version of parallels. you can use terminal and type mount to get the disk and partition of your windows install. awesome thanks again. MrSco
PLEASE HELP! I can't get this to work... My setup... 1st HD with WinXP sp2 (using boot.ini/chain0 method to get to os x) 2nd HD with Kalyway OS X 10.5.2 (MBR) I can boot into winxp and os x seperately fine using the chain0 method. I installed the latest Parallels and setup the bootcamp .pvs to point to my winxp drive, but when I start the virtual machine it starts to load windows and gets to the options to start windows (safe mode, safe mode with networking... start windows normally, etc). After selecting one of the options (doesn't matter which) the virtual machine just locks up (not parallels, just the vm running inside parallels). When selecting safe mode it seems to hang on mup.sys?! I haven't tried setting up a seperate hardware profile as suggested in this thread... will that make all the difference? What am I missing?!?! Thanks in advanced
frtommy
I've got a Leopard 10.5.2 + XP + Ubuntu Hackintosh PC (MBR partition table + EFI v8). I'm using GRUB as the bootloader to choose OS at boot. Everything is set up and working OK. Now, I want to use Parallels to boot the XP install that is already present on a different partition. The method on page 1 of this thread worked on another machine where I had Vista and OS X (bootloader: Darwin). But now, on this machine which has grub, when I start the virtual machine from Parallels, the VM Window fills up with "GRUB GRUB GRUB.....", line after line. I then have to force stop the VM. I've got Ubuntu installed on ReiserFS. Apparently, from what I've read in these forums, Darwin can't boot ReiserFS partitions. This is the reason why I'm using Grub. How do I make Parallels co-exist with GRUB? Or in the worst case, how do I remove grub and let Darwin take over the booting? In this case, I won't be able to boot Ubuntu, but probably, I can create a new Ubuntu VM. Thanks. Anjan T. I have your same problem.Anyone Can help us? jbloggs
Ok, not working for me, I followed the steps in first post. When I start the Virual Machine, it seems to start booting and presents me with screen that allows me to choose whether to boot into Windows XP or Mac OSX and I choose Win XP, then the screen goes black and Parallels just stops the VM with a "Fatel Parallels Monitor Error" screen where it wants to email a txt and png file to Parallels. So I must have missed a major step somewhere. My set up is as follows Disk0:Partition2 = Win XP Disk1:Partition0 = NtFS formated for Data Disk1:Partition1 = OSx86 (Kalyway 10.5.2) The BOOT.INI in WIN XP is using Chain0 Modifed the .pvs file: Disk 0:0 image = Boot Camp;disk0s2 I don't what everyone is talking about when saying prepare WinXP for Parallel, what exactly needs to be done here? After the 'crash', when I go back to boot into WinXP natively it says that Windows was stopped unexpectedly and give me the option to boot into SAFE MODE or NORMAL MODE so that tells me that something drastically went wrong. Anyone have any ideas?
NSCXP2005
Hello to all, Could somebody here test if Parallels will run in VMWare under Windows XP. theend
i wrote all the posts here.. and some on the parallels forum as well, sounds for me like parallels isnt supporting boot camp to be booted with a MBR disk.. can anyone confirm that? //Edit: nvm... got my problem fixed that Parallel is always writing "booting from ....." and nothing more.. i just had to set my windowsXP partition to Activ... and parallels boots with no problems
BrumBrum74
Managed to get this running on my Advent 4211 (MSi Wind). Had to make XP on first partition on disk and OSX on the second partition. XP partition is marked as Active.
BrumBrum74
Suddenly after upgrading XP to SP3 and installing some driver in Windows natively, I can't get Parallels to start XP again. Just before it's gonna start windows I get a autochk error that the file cannot be found and then a blue screen comes up. Anybody have a clue how to fix this? raggedjagged
How do I do this with Parallels 4? After I select for it to boot with Boot Camp Partition, it says that it can't configure the boot camp partition. How do i do this??
ankushg
I'm also wondering how to do this... I'm running iAtkos v5i updated to 10.5.6 on an HFS+ partition, I have an NTFS partition for data, and I have an NTFS partition running XP all on the same hard drive. I've seen success from other users with VMware Fusion, but I don't know if it applies to VMware Fusion 2.0... I'd really appreciate it if anyone can post update instructions for either VMware Fusion 2 or Parallels 4. Thanks, ~Unk

falsify
With parallels upgrade (4.0) the configuration file as changed to an xml file... anyone knows how to do it now? I'm also trying to get it to work with 4.0. The "Boot Camp Partition" is not selectable when I try and create the parallels virtual machine. The .pvs file is a more complicated XML file like you mentioned, and I'm not exactly sure how to go about editing it to tell it boot off the physical drive where I have XP installed. I think I could probably figure it out, if someone who has XP installed on physical drive and is able to use it through Parallel's Boot Camp option could send the HDD portion of their config.pvs

Joel G.
Has there been any progress? I so would love to use a physical install with Parallels 4. Yes, I'm very interested also. Especially because I'm using apple's wireless bluetooth keyboard and it doesn't work in the bios, so I can't boot into windows without plugging in a usb keybaord. Kobukson
If anyone has gotten Parallels 5 to work with their physical Windows install on a Hackintosh, please enlighten us ^^ Trying to mess with it myself right now and it seems to be picking the correct partition in the config file, but during the setup when I try to start the VM, it ends up erroring. ChiguiroChiflado
Hi there I know this an old Thread but I am trying this and cant make it work properly. I have been using my hackintosh booting with chameleon either my win7 or snow leopard partition. I installed parallels 6 on osx and before i knew it it was already running my windows 7 on a window. it gave me a few errors having to do with the MOBOs OCing tools but after closing them it was all good. I installed parallels tools and rebooted with no problem except those mentioned errors. then i was able to use my windows to encode some video while using my mac on other things SWEET!!! BUT... later i tried to boot my windows via chameleon and got blue screen. I rebooted it and finally worked after an hour of 'windows is trying to solve the problem' windows then was fine. I decided I would give it another try with parallels from my osx an now i am unable to boot it says there was a fatal error. what to do? thanks in advance
