There seems to be problem with the download links on this page. I am trying to get my TL-WN560G working on lepord 10.5.4 (JaS) I can see the network but when I connect the system freezes. Can someone please help me?

Sounds like you have the wrong io80211 kext - download slipttees package, edit as per the very first post in the thread and try again. If your system is freezing, its actually probably a good sign you might get it going, as this is what it does without editing the kext or using a .5.4 etc kext.

Hi,

Following various instructions found here I managed to get my OS to detect the wireless card, but for some reason it can't seem to find any networks. I am running XxX 10.5.5 with PPF1/2. Using the toolbar airport icon it will start to scan but doesn't find anything. I have tried kismac also and it doesn't yield any results either. Anyone else have this problem?

I am using the kext made by nickhe.

Also when I edited the NetworkPreferences.plist to en1 and 1, I checked network utility to see that my airport card was en2. So I went back into the file and modified en1 to en2,2. Now network utility says its en1. For some reason I can't get the networkpreferences.plst to point to the airport card.

i have the same issue. it just scans and keeps scanning/cant find anything. i edited the various things and it didnt work. i have now put them back to how they were..dunno what to do now

after reading this thread more and trying to figure things out im not surprised people have just magically got things working with no clue how really.

this thread is a cluster... of info. not very clear, directions with many things missing from them with jumps to next steps without pieces in between. this is no offence to anyone as everyone is trying to help others but this is just way to confusing. new/organized thread? if this actually does work and been done by many i dont see why it cant be reorganized by someone who knows whats up because for someone like me who has tried various things..im lost now.

and this thread just keeps making things worse.

Can anyone help me Please. I've been trying for weeks and didn't want to bother anybody. However, I am now bald and have nothing left to pull out..

I have an atheros card I bought off ebay. My device ID is already listed in the default Info.plist (from windows - pci/ven-168c&dev-001c). I have tried everything I found in this thread and have been unsuccessful. My string looks like this.

<string>pci168, 1c</string> I even tried deleting it and doing it over. I've tried it all by itself. I've reformated and reinstalled so many time I see leopard in my sleep. This is the last step to getting my Lenovo T60 how I need it. I am using iDeneb V1.4 10.5.6

Any help is greatly apprectiated.

Michael

I'm confused here. So I had already setup the pcmcia driver so its seeing my cisco card as Atheros Communicator Inc AR5001-0000-0000. Already made the changes listed with the 1st post. had changed en1 to en2 (en0 was listed for the ethernet port). Now I do see AirPort listed in the Network, but status is off. Even when I click on Turn AirPort On, it does nothing. Wrong driver?

ok so change the ethernet to from en0 to en2. The wireless is working, but ethernet is no longer working. Ethernet would say cable is unplugged, even when the cable is plugged in

I just tired using wifi as en0 and the ethernet as en1. The wifi will not turn on or establish a connection until I plug in the ethernet cord.

Fixed this, well ...

Hardware use DWL-G520 Rev B2 chipset Atheros 5212/5213

screenshotli3.th.png

... remove or backup leo's IO80211Family.kext IONetworksFamily.kext, and remove too Extensions.mkext

reboot with -v flag

now copy 10.4.8 IO80211Family.kext IONetworksFamily.kext (by Combo Apple or JaS DVD) or still Attachment file to /System/Library/Extensions/

repair permissions with disktutil

get PlistEdit Pro here

Open with Finder /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AirPortAtheros5424.kext/Contents/

copy Info.Plist to Desktop and then Edit with PlistEdit Pro

		<array>
			<string>pci106b,0086</string>
			<string>pci168c,1c</string>
			<string>pci168c,13</string>
		</array>

replace Info.plist file

now open terminal and type

sudo -s
chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/
chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/
diskutil repairPermissions /
touch /System/Library/Extensions/
exit
sudo -k
exit
reboot

Enjoy

PS: reboot iPc mores time! :D

I used this to get my atheros ar5bmb5 card to work.. even though some people say it won't.

It didn't work at first.. but I just changed one thing and it suddenly worked and detected networks. Uncheck "Ask to detect to new networks"

Before I checked that, it wouldn't allow me to turn Airport on. I unchecked that and it turned on.. and detected my network!! I am so happy. I hope that helps someone.

Also.. just to be clear. I downloaded that attachment and installed, rebooted, and did what I said above.

I added my ID to the kext (pci168c,1a) and when I did the airport utility icon showed up in the top bar and when I click I can see a list of networks but when I click on mine to connect it freezes. I have a TP-LINK TL-WN560G Wireless card. Any help would be great!

Well playing arround I found a way to make work with a lattest version of IO80211Family.kext (ver 2.1.4) for 10.5.6 I hope this one works for you. Made by me today

tested with a 10.5.6 and vanilla, on a tp-link tl-wn551g (168c,001a) (atheros 5005g) PCI sometimes sleep doesnt work or had to deactivate and activate airport to conect....but almost times works fine.

Can you make a new one, with the latest airport update?

because since the airport update (from 3 march) my internet doesn't work anymore with this IO80211Family.kext !!

I've had this several times, and im still working on it, however the fix i currently use is to start up Leopard in Safeboot (at Darwin boot loader hit F8, and then type -x and enter) or boot up into single user mode (at Darwin boot loader hit F8, and then type -s, and enter). From there delete the IO80211Family.kext, and from terminal:

nano /etc/rc.local

and remove any networksetup or airport commands...

Hope this helps, and im still working on this freezing issue :s

actually from my findings, i've found that if one simply has the settings in the AirPort Preferences to never save (ie do not remember this network, do not remember this password) that it will work everytime, however you have to join it every boot from the preferred networks. Also, I believe its a problem with writing to the preferences.plist, or the com.apple.AirPortPreferences.plist...i think that may be the root of the problems...

Exact same thing with me. Everything works perfekt as long as I don't save. I have to connect every time I boot up the Machine. Even though I'm on WEP. Even more weird is the fact, that it only works if I use the Assistent to get this going. If I try to select my networt directly It just crashes as well.

Anyone found a solution to share?

Thanks Jan

Installed iPC 10.5.6 on a IBM Thinkpad T40 -- using Airlink AWLC4130 card. Used the method in first post (old kext method for 10.5) and it worked in first time !

Thank you all !

May be I spoke too soon :(

Two Issues:

1. Random kernel panics now which were not there earlier.

2. The wireless doesn't automatically connect to the router. I have to goto network panel and connect it manually. And even after it connects, the wireless rings at the top of the system bar remains grayed out.

This post addresses specifically Euphorica's post explaining that there are so many solutions, instructions and comments all mixed up that it is almost impossible to find a straight path to the solution of getting wireless working on the AR5212. I agree entirely.

It is pretty much as simple as the first post, but other matters (distros / customizations?) can complicate the simple instructions. I tried, failed. then nailed it (I actually thought I stuffed up again as per one of my posts but it turned out to be a router issue luckily). Therefore, because this thread is still going, and because I remember my utter frustration I will attempt to rule another line and offer my assistance. I can assure this works on Kalyway 10.5.2 -> 10.5.4

*** 1. Clearing any failed attempts:

(You may skip this if just done a fresh install)

Delete these files in /library/preferences/systemconfiguration :

preferences.plist

Networkinterfaces.plist

com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

com.apple.airport.networkidentification.plist

*** 2. Copy modified kexts:

Attached are two files...

First is my modified 10.4.8 IO80211Family.kext, as per many instructions.

Second is a IOnetworkingfamily.kext (this is optional, but it fixes uuid 35 error messages in console, fixes time machine, and has "un-scientifically" helped to fix wireless problems. Many distros include this file by default due to above said fixes, so it wont hurt).

Copy these files to:

/system/library/extensions

You will need to overwrite and use your password etc etc

delete the /system/library/extensions.mkext file

A message may pop up complaining about what you've just done - ignore it.

*** 3. Repair reboot

Run diskutil and repair permissions on osx disk

Reboot

During next boot, it will restart - this is ok.

*** 4. Config airport card

You should see an empty airport icon in the top right corner of the menu bar now. Now you should be able to go into system pref's and see the airport card in the network section. Fill in your DNS, IP, password etc etc - if it asks to turn airport on, say yes.

Unplug your ethernet cable so you dont confuse yourself at this point.

At this point, I belive WEP users can connect automatically at startup - you are finished now, simply reboot. However most people use WAP2, so read on...

*** 5. Prepare auto-manual airport connection.

WAP2 authentication doesnt work (as highlighted by several posts) so you need to do this work around:

Using nano from terminal, or a text editor, create the file rc.local in your /etc folder

In it add the following command line, substituting the valid info of course:

networksetup -setairportnetwork your_wireles_network_name your_wireless_password

Save and quit.

*** 6. Reboot for glory

Reboot, and you should hopefully be back on your desktop with airport connected!

Sometimes, perhaps 1 in 30 reboots the airport won't connect. You can issue the above command line from terminal to re-initialise the airport. I have made a plain text file called 'air' with the above command line in it, made it executable (by typing chmod +x air from terminal), and then placed it in my /usr/sbin folder. If on bootup airport doesnt work, I just type air from terminal and it brings it up in about 3 seconds.

I'll pop back again in a bit if anyone has any questions. Sorry it is not a fancy guide with colours and pics etc, but, post my router issue, this has worked solidly for me every time (as I experimented with other areas of OS X and bricked my install a number of times!)

Good luck.
