Synaesthesia
There have been a LOT of discussions on this lately, so search around before you ask a question like that. Good, Cheap Hackbook Sorry, I usually give advice to people, but you can search the forum yourself, and find some really helpful threads like. AND there's the wiki, and the HCList, just click on 'Portable Devices'. Do check it out.

My Acer is OK (Intel WIFI 3945 will probably never be working - may change the mini pci card) but I'd guess the Lenovo are better...just read a bit here....it's for free ! dunklerengel
the laptop with the turion 64x2 its just for windows i was wanting to spend $1000 with shipping and handling but if i find something compatible in a 95% with osx86 i would be better , at the first i was thinking in a dell with core2duo but maybe, but the core2duo its much expensive, i`m looking for a good procesor with a good video card compatible with osx86 in a mobile way ( a LAPTOP) maybe someday i will find it

FavleX
Try an Acer 5612, I think is worth it. around 800 euros and evrithing works except Wi-Fi , pcmcia, others is the same as my brother's MacBook.. I need only to update to 4.8 to get applications like Aperture or Photoshop CS3, and hoping that this compatibility will be supported even on Leo. tipnmo
buy a refurb mbp.. not much up on the apple site for mbps at the moment, but thats always changing. Apple posts refurbs in the morning (usa, westcoast), so ive found thats the best time to look. So far i have bought a refurb macbook and macbookpro from apple, both came in excellent condition and my brother and i are both very happy with our computers. imo apple refurbs are the only way to go. and at the moment buying an actual mac is the only way to ensure future compatability with OS X. just remember, leopard is not far off. Gcrumpets
i have Dell e1505 thats extremely compitable with OSX, everything works out of the box except sounds...i fixed that with usb speakers but wireless and everything else works fine...got it for around 599$, 1.8ghz core duo 15.4 wide display and 512 ram that was upgraded to 1.5gb for 90$ but i recently bought a 15" 800mhz powerbook g4 with 768mb ram in good condition off ebay for 450$ and i must say a real mac is alot cooler than a hackintosh, it just works that way.....so i would recommend ebay...i would always recommend ebay if your looking to not spend a lot of money. thats my 2 cents Edited February 7, 2007 by Gcrumpets

Gcrumpets
the main thing to remember when buying on ebay is use paypal....its pretty safe and gives you protection, also try not to buy from "ebay stores" located in china that incorrectly spell half the stuff on their ebay listing...but ebay stores that seem legit can be better than buying from an indivual person. ive bought tons of stuff from ebay, powerbook, a bass guitar, numerous computer parts, speakers and the list could go on.... so far ive never had a bad experience besides having to wait a little extra time for people to ship stuff. (compared to ordering from a company or store) just make sure whoever your buying from has good feedback (like 97-100% positive) and always try to use paypal and you should be good, and after buying or winning an auction wait about 30minutes to pay to make sure that everything worked, ive heard people say that they paid right after and then found out that their buy was cancled or the seller refused. then they had to jump through hoops to get their payment returned. Litespeed
I installed JaS 10.4.7 on my wife's Acer Aspire 3620-series laptop and the only things I had to do was hunt down the driver for the Atheros wireless card and do the video dongle trick (using two small pieces of solder) to get the LCD to light up. Everything else worked out of the box including QE and CI.

dunklerengel
the dell looks to be more compatible than others, maybe its about the intel components
Animik
The Compaq Presario V6105NR is pretty functional. In 10.4.6 WiFi, Ethernet, Display (With Core Image and Quartz Extreme fully functioning), and everything else like a real Mac working including audio. After upgrade to 10.4.8, Ethernet did not work anymore, but WiFi did, the laptop didn't go to sleep when lid is closed (that's a good thing for me) and the sound had to be repatched.
