VM 5.5.3 JaS 10.4.8

Hello,

I have got this installed on my lap top so I figured I would give it a try on my desktop in VM this time. I used the guides and followed the steps out lined here

http://forum.insanelymac.com/lofiversion/i...php/t35639.html

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Vmware_how_to

but I am running into some problems. First let me give you the specs of my PC.

Core2Duo E6600 Overclocked to 3.0 GHZ

ASUS P5B-E

2 Gigs PC-800

ATI Radeon 850 XT PCIE

2 SATA 230 gig drives not in raid

1) I kept reading in the posts to use ide for hard drive, but in VM 5.5.3 it only lets you choose a SCSI disk the only way i found to get around this is to edit the .vmx file and replace all scsi instances with ide. You also have to edit the VM virtual disk file and set the values as follows.

ddb.adapterType = "ide"

ddb.geometry.sectors = "63"

ddb.geometry.heads = "16"

ddb.geometry.cylinders = "16383"

ddb.virtualHWVersion = "4"

This basically tricks vm into thinking the disk was created as an ide disk not a scsi disk. This is only valid for disks over 8 gigs otherwise the geometry.cyclinders value would have to be recalculated.

2) after installing multiple versions both Jas 10.4.8 SSE2 SSE3 amd intel release with patch as well as Jas 10.4.7 with patch. I am able to install everything with no problems via mounting the image Alcohol 120 and selecting that drive in VM. I am also using Windows NT as the OS for my install, but after the install of OSX when I have to reboot the machine it hangs and does not load Darwin there is a single underscore that just sits at the top left hand corner of the screen. I thought maybe it was because of the boot options for the VM machine so on boot I hit delete and try to select the hard drive to boot from, but I get the same results. The other wierd thing is if I boot up selecting cd to boot from I am not able to enter the boot options by pressing F8 once the darwin loading screen comes up. I can only hit enter and it just takes me through the installation again. I also tried to just let in count down thinking it would load of the hard drive but then I get the System config file /com.apple.Boot.plist not found.

I hope I explained everything well enough for someone to help. If you need any other info I will gladly supply it. I really wanted to get this working so any help or direction would be awsome.

Can someone shed some light on this does the JaS 10.4.8 or 10.4.7 dvd work? Has this been confirmed? Someone posted that Tubgirls release will only work. Can the Jas 10.4.8 be used if you use the AMD patches or is it because of the problem with disk utility. I did format my VM image with a Jas 10.4.7 disk utility first, but I still ran into the same problem. Hope someone can clear up the rumors and give some facts. Thanks

I´ve just tried new JaS 10.4.8 PPF1 ISO, and the installation froze (and VM message appeared about CPU off) when installing Semthex´s patches for AMD.

hmmm interesting, so the Jas 10.4.8 with AMD does not work as well then. I wonder what the difference is between tubgirls release and Jas's. Could it be the kernel I know that Jas uses the 8.8.1 kernel does anyone know what kernel tubgirl uses and Can anyone verify that the have a Jas release working in VM and if so which release is it. I only have 3 releases of the installs and all are Jas 10.4.8 amd and intel Jas 10.4.8 intel only and Jas 10.4.7 and all have failed to boot after install same issue with all of them can anyone please explain how they got 10.4.8 working in VM because I'm stumped. Thanks

Ok Up and running Vm image of OSX 10.4.8!!!!!!!! Need a little help though I still cannot get ethernet or sound to work can anyone help with this I followed the guide to what you have to change in the .vmx file for ethernet and sound but both of these are not working if I do an ipconfig on my windows box and try setting the ip of the ethernet port on my mac using the vm ethernet ip address but this does not work it says I am connected but when I try to launch opera it does not connect when I go to system preferneces and then network it shows the built in ethernet is connected. I'm almost there and just need to get these two things configured. I hope someone can help or has run into this issue before.

Anyone wondering how to make a VM of OSX for some odd reason you have use the AMD patches and not the Intel patches even if you are on an Intel platform. Not sure why I just know for a fact they don't work because I have tried like 6 times to no avail. Hope this helps a few people who were having the same porblems as me.

Cheers

Here is a screen shot of my VM OSX it runs pretty quick almost native, but I do have a core 2 duo e6600 overclocked to 3.0 GHZ and I am giving my VM 1.25 Gigs of memory. I still need some help with a few things though.

1) no sound

2) ethernet does not work

3) USB does not work

if someone can help with this it would be much appreciated. I am going to try installing some apps now I will post my results starting with appeture 1.5

I tried yesterday with new JaS 10.4.8 PPF1 with AMD patches and the install hang some minutes before it´s end (about 77% of Semthex patches)...

Any clues?

@CDub50, was this version you tried?

The exact version I used was JaS.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3. You should be able to find this on any torrent site and it included the 1st ppf patch. Hope that helps. Have you got your sound and ethernet to work? This is what is not working for me

1) sound

2)built in ethernet

3)usb

any ideas on how to get those up and running on VM?

I'm using JaS.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3 with PPF1 (JaS.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSe2.SSe3.v1p) on VMWare 5.5.3 using tutorials and howtos in forums, everything installs well but stops at boot after a successful install with the errors: "You have installed a 64-bit OS" (which should be 32-bit on WinNT) and "Kernel Error". Used Intel kexts, gonna try the AMD kexts under VMWare as CDub50 has suggested.

Hope it works.

No I am using a core 2 duo so I used Windows NT. I read you only use Windows NT if your using Intel Core Duo or Core 2 Duo, otherwise you use FreeBSD as your OS.

I have core duo... I´ve tried yesterday but it installs fine but never boots.

Will try again later with Windows NT.

I´ve just tested with a "Windows NT" guest system and the screen is black after the installation. I can´t get it running after it´s installed onto the HD.

are you using a physically different HD? I insalled mine onto the same drive. one thing to try as well as after format in OSX try to partion the drive and allocate the drive as the partition. It took me a good 7 or 8 times to get my VM up and running. On a dual core its pretty fast I would say almost native speed I have no lag when I select programs and no delay when typing in text editor. Here is my .vmx file so you can try and emulate what I have

I couldn't understand that.

I´m using a 6.0 GB drive created on vmware (pre-allocated).

Same way I am setting mine up make sure your once it reboots you go into the vm boot options by hitting esc and point it to boot off of the HD. I'm not sure what else it can be. here is a screen shot of how my vm looks hope you get it up and running. If you need anything else just let me know via this thread.

Here is my tutorial; everything works for me. I haven't tried USB specifically, but my mouse, keyboard and printer are all USB and they work.

To answer your other questions:

I think Tubgirls DVD uses a newer version of Semthex' 8.8.1 kernel. He added VMware support.

Sound works nicely for me. Tubgirl's disk installs Maxuss es1371 kext. Works with vmware default audio. If your disk didn't do that, its posted on the board or go to osx86project.org HCL. Use 10.4.3 or later kext.

To get ethernet to work, edit your vmx file with notepad. Change the ethernet0 virtual device:

ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"

DHCP does not work; Set up IP address and DNS within OS X.

If you are working with Intel Virtualization enabled, be sure to add -legacy boot flag or kernel goes into 64 bit mode and crashes.

Use -legacy boot flag to keep kernel in 32 bit mode

Ah, you are a godsend. Intel works and AMD does not, I get stuck at the ACPI-power-button-error (or something like that).

Here's OSX 10.4.8 from JaS.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3 patched with JaS.AMD.Intel.SSe2.SSe3.v1p inside VMWare 5.5.3 with Intel kexts. Used bootflags -v -vmware -legacy on install, i just boot it up afterwards with -legacy. Running on two cores! :whistle: What's with the 0MHz DRAM? ;P

I'll see if i can get everything up to speed with networking, sound, and acceleration. Specs at sig.
