Hey People...

Still a beginner on this kind of thing, but making some advances.

I'm posting here a partial solution that can make Via AD 1888 users get Stereo fully working on the 4 principal speakers. And Mic also working, in case front-connector or back connector.

I dont know if anyone done this before, i tryed several things and thsi solution was the better for me until now.

Thanks to Pattjin since i used his kext as source.

Please if you install this kext, GIVE ME FEEDBACK, any aditional info will be great (even "it works on this chipset or this board"), as i intend to keep working on it.

My intention is to get 5.1 sound on this board... i don't know if it is possible.

 

For begginers, this is what you need to do:

 

- Put the kext on your desktop

- Open terminal and type

sudo su

- Give your password and press enter, then type

cp -R /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext /Users/put-your-user-name-here-please/Desktop/BAK

cp -R /Users/put-your-user-name-here-please/Desktop/AppleAC97Audio.kext /System/Library/Extensions

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions

rm /System/Library/Extensions.*

kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

- Restart your system normally and...

4.0 Sound!

 

IMPORTANT NOTE:

In most cards the connectors will be changed! Try to plug your sound boxes on different connectors (ignoring the motherboard specs of wich plug does what...)

 

Hope people get happy.

I will try to prouce an installer for this installation.

And people, if anything goes wrong, the original kext that worked before will be at you desktop in a folder named BAK.

If everything is fine, you can delete this older and enjoy your sound.

Estou postando uma solu��o parcial para fazer os chipsets VIA com som AD1888 funcionarem em Stereo 4.0. O microfone funcionr� pelo plug trazeiro ou pelo plug do gabinete para quem usa.

N�o sei se algu�m conseguiu isso antes, mas procurei bastante e esta foi a melhor solu��o pra mim at� agora.

Agradecimentos ao Patjjin, usei o kext dele como source.

Se voc� instalar o kext, dando certo ou n�o, por favor ME CONTE COMO FOI, qualquer informa��o adicional vai ser util, uma vez que quero melhor o trabalho.

- Ponha o kext no seu desktop

- Abra o terminal e digite

NOTA IMPORTANTE: Na maioria das placas os plugs estar�o trocados! Tente plugar suas caixas de som em diferentes buracos de audio (mesmo que de mic) caso notem algum problema

 

Vou tentar fazer um instalador assim que puder.

E, gente se qualquer coisa der errado, o kext original estar� numa pasta chamada BAK no desktop de voc�s.

Dando certo, podem deletar esta pasta e curtir seu som stereo, com 4 caixas de som inclusive.

I tried getting this to work on an ADI 1988b audio (ASUS P5B Deluxe WiFi) - however when i went into the Info.plist file i could not find any vendorid.

Hence this audio patch did not work for me

 

Cartri - is there any chance you could patch it so that it would work with my audio chipset ?

Nice card you have, han...

 

I think that, for you, you have to use the Azalia methods, since your chipset is not via.

The thing works this way:

the VIA kext has the vendor etcs

the 198x kext has the PNP-ID... try searching arround about azalia methods, since it not only will work with Intel ICHs but will also work better, instead of stereo spreading you shall have full separate channels.

i have an Asus P5PE-VM with ADI 1888 sound. i downloaded the kext and followed the guide but without result. what am i doing wrong?

 

befor i instaled i checked in systemprofiler Audio (Built in) and got the message "No Built-in Audio." I get stereo-out through line-in but no line-out nor mic, like so many others.

 

is this kext supposed to make Audio work nativly? and appeare as built in audio in sys.prof?

No, it will not appear in "built in audio" menu,,, it only should make your audio work directly trough line in and line out at the same time , and mic through "mic".

Can you make in terminal

I tried your kext but I don't have stereo channel.

And when I go to the audio/midi configuration application, it's is said that output is not supported.

Is there a way to make it work in stereo and with the good rate?

 

If no one know, can you send me the sources of your kext, Cartri, I'll try to modify it a little bit to support my sound card.

I think it's not so hard, but I prefer to start with your updated source than Darwin ones. If I take Darwin one, I'll have to update project and if it's ever done, I don't want to spend my time doing this.

when i selected Line out and play music with itunes, the speed of singing is

fast than normal.

when selected SPDIF Out, speed is normal. but output volume in menu bar can't

Ok, I made a mistake before using this kext because it's seems to work much better right now.

But I don't I don't have the good sample rate now because the sound is a little bit strange and there are some bugs with it.

 

I cannot use the audio/MIdi app for output, it is said that it is not supported.

 

In iTunes, it seems to work but just a little speedy than normal. But in Quicktime, then it's very very speedy. I think I need 44.1 instead of 48 or the inverse.

 

In all case, thanks to everyone, it's getting better. Not finished but better.

 

EDIT : is it possible to send me the source code. I will try to fix it by myself. I did some audio driver for Hercules in the past (several years ago).

 

EDIT 2 : Now I am sure this is a 48KHz instead of 44.1 because songs or during less time than it must play in iTunes.

So, is there a way to change rate from 48 to 44?

So, it works great right now!!!

 

I was so stupid, I forgot to select the good AC97 Audio PCM and now, I have access to audio output and to rate.

So I set it up to 48KHz and now it 's working perfectly.

for my asus k8v-x se it works good. im using the line out for stereo sound, and its the only kext that works in both channels so far...the biggest problem is that the master volume control in the finder bar is not working...do maybe you guys have some other kext that works better for my mainboard, or some solution for the volume control...

 

 

na minha asus k8v-x se funciona legal...to usando o line out pra saida de som stereo por que até agora é a unica kext que consegue fazer isso na minha placa mãe...vocês tem alguma soluçao pra funcionar o volume na barra do finder ou outra kext que funcione melhor na minha placa(interrogacao) de qualquer forma muito obrigado por essa kext que completou as funcionalidades do meu hackintosh! =o)

Hey eu tenho uma K8V-X SE fiz tudo tercinho aqui e não funciono... fica em dois canais de audio e quando eu mando teste nem ruido sai.. não testei com mp3 ou algo assim vou testar.. mas desconfio que não ira funciona já que não funciona com o proprio teste do Finder, alguem ai passo por issu também?

 

 

 

Hey I have a K8V-X IF I made everything here tercinho and I do not function… is in two canals of audio and when I control have tested nor ruido he leaves. I did not test with mp3 or something thus I go to test. but I distrust that anger does not function since does not function with the proper test of the Finder, also alguem ai step therefore?

Okay, taking my words back...

WHY IT WAS NOT WORKING FOR ME:

I had to plug audio out cable into another hole in soundcard. For some reason it is different than on Windows or Linux.

I haven't tested yet, but it looks like I will have to switch audio plug each time I change OS.

I have the same mainboard (Asus P5PE-VM) with AD 1888 sound. I got sound "working" (?) with AppleAzalia from JaS 10.4.8. It doesn't show in System Profiler but it does show in System Preferences and Audio MIDI Setup. The weirdest thing is that I have two identical "AC97 Audio (PCM)" devices appearing in AMS, one with "no input supported" and another with "no output supported". When I configure the output in AMS I can set it to up to 6 outputs, 44100Hz and 48000Hz, but 16-bit only (is this a limitation of this hardware?). [edit: now I don't know what I f--- up that the outs 4-6 shows grayed out.]

 

In System Preferences I have the following available inputs:

 

MIC

CD

Line In

Stereo Mix

Mono Mix

 

with an input level bargraph and an input volume slider. The volume slider is available in the menu bar as well. I didn't test if the inputs are actually working or not just yet*.

 

In System Preferences I have the following available output:

 

Line Out (Port: AC97 Audio (PCM).

Settings for the selected device: Balance left<-|->right

 

I'm experiencing also the annoying issue of having the sound coming out from the mic in. *When I move the output volume slider in System Preferences I see the mic input level bargraph lighting in the same proportion as the alert sound comes out. Look as if the mic in and the line out are connected to the same jack at the same time.

 

Anyone got any workaround to this pesky issue of the sound coming out from the mic in? Do I have to write my proper hardware ID in some obscure plist (btw where can I check this)??

EDIT: I got it partially working now. I think I must have forgot to delete the extensions caches, so I believe it was loading JaS's AC97 kext.

 

I finally got the audio coming out from the right hole - at first I got a very weak output and no volume control - slider showed up and I could move it but no effect. Then I tried from my Apple keyboard's volume keys and it worked - I could raise the volume to full and lower it to mute - I got then volume control from system preferences and menu bar. I tried to mess up with Audio MIDI setup, but I couldn't enable more than 2 speakers (L, R) for output. Outs 4~6 were still grayed out. Plus, when switching to 6-output mode the sound went weak again with no volume control as before. I moved back to stereo and no change. I then restarted and it went back to normal, ie, volume control from keyboard, system preferences and menu bar.

 

Output sample ratios are still limited to 44100Hz and 48000Hz, and bit depth is stuck at 16-bit. I don't know what are the actual limitations of this hardware, any help would be welcome.

 

Last but not least, it still doesn't show up in Apple System Profiler.
