What x86 emulators work?

Depends what you mean.. there's native intel sheepshaver & then Lamer0's Dosbox86..

What do you want to do with it?

When you have the possibilty of running osx86, linux or windows natively, what's to emulate?

Which sort of brings us back to vmware, but that needs either linux or windows as a host OS...

I've tried just about all, cant get any to work. Can someone post which ones work with OSX86?

I have found the source for qemuX (Qemu for OSX) and was wondering if someone can compile it.

http://cordney.com/QemuX/download.php?&dow...4-14-src.tar.gz

I tried Bochs, it works:

But it runs like a 100Mhz PC. Translation from PPC to X86 code makes it slow :(

Mabye it would run faster if someone compiled it for Intel (I cant even get xcode tools to install)

Edit: I cant get it to install. It freezes.

Take an image you still made in qemu and just start with bochs if it freeze at the install. At first boot W9x change the hardware driver (qemu -> bochs), reboot and works (for me).

  • 3 months later...

When I first saw Q's web site, I assumed it was something for Intel Mac, but it works for PPC Mac. I don't know if it's universal or not. Any way, it works great. It is super slow. I'm running it on 400 MHz G4 with 512 MB and it's slower than molasses. But although it's slow, it is very easy to use. Right now I'm installing, Fedora Core 4. Next I'll do ReactOS, then Windows XP Home, and maybe Mandriva Linux. I don't suppose it would be too bad to try and install the dev. release of osx86 considering it would be running on a Mac and I'm waiting on a MacBook from my work. Well I guess it doesn't matter any way because at the rate this install is going, I won't get around to it before I get my MacBook. Here's a picture of it chugging along. fedora.png

Q and QemuX are Qemu and it will probably soon be compiled intel MACs because it's free and open source. There are also 2 commercial Versions based on it ($$): iEmulator and GuestPC

Maybe for OSX86 a kqemu will also come:

Well, Fedora crashed on me. I'd rather run a simpler OS in Q any way because my computer is already slow. I have installed ReactOS and I'm testing it out. More specific info can be found at the QEMU on Mac OS X Forum. I think I might kill my XP PC so that I can try this OS out on native hardware. This software is unusable on my current hardware, but it'll be different once I get MacBook and once this program is Universal with Virtualization for the Intel Mac. Any way, here's a picture of Q running ReactOS:

You're best bet is to do a search on google, or look for a torrent. I'll see if I still have the .img around somewhere... maybe I could attach it on the forum (it's only a couple MBs).

Fileforum.com (aka Betanews.com) had a mirror of it...

... they point to the sourceforge mirrors: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/reactos...so.zip?download

The site is very slow, but the New York mirror works! Maybe others too!

Check it out! I'm downloading just in case... download complete!

Just in case, here is the Betanews link: http://fileforum.betanews.com/download/ReactOS/1087314074/1
