L_X
I made a special cursor scheme for Mighty Mouse which eliminates mouse tearing on old ATI cards. This new trick seems to be the best solution so far (cursor even has that freaking shadow), and the only major drawback is that Mighty Mouse is not free and regularly displays annoying reminders. So, just download, unzip and apply. (if you get an error when trying to install the scheme just open Mighty Mouse pref. pane (or close and reopen it) and try again) If you are using Safari, I'd recommend enabling smooth scrolling in preferences/appearence. However in this case the hand cursor (which is not skinned by Mighty Mouse) might still cause some tearing. The solution to this would be using Mighty Mouse together with Mouse Locator or copying file linkCursor.tiffto /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/WebCore.framework/Versions/A/Resources/ Update: AntiTear2.zip Edited January 13, 2007 by L_X

aquabot
L_X, I think you're a bit of a genius! The only issue now is dragging windows, the cursor seems to get stuck. But I don't care; I have CI and QE sans mouse tearing now!
helios
I still have mouse tearing while scrolling a window for the first time, after using F11 for expose i never get tearing again in the same window. Have I made some error? The mouse flickering is gone though.

L_X
BTW, if you are using this method I highly recommend disabling Quartz2D (if you enabled it) and turning smooth scrolling on in System Preferences/Appearance.
helios
No difference here with Q2D on or off... still tearing on new application windows and to make the tearing go away press F11+F11 and it wont appear again until a new app is started. Man wish someone could fix this completely.
L_X
Well, that's pretty weird, cause I don't have anything like that - all works fine for me.
39thRonin
The best solution I found was to upgrade to Jas 10.4.8 with an ATI X1600 Pro. That fixed my cursor issues once and for all...

helios
Here's a screenshot that shows the tearing that I have even when Mighty Mouse is running. What can be wrong, it's the T43 in my sig.
RideTheCliche
Helios... Install MouseLocator with the shadow cursor from: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...hadow&st=40 Then grab a copy of iCursor: http://www.giofx.net/osx/icursor.htm Create a custom iCursor that shows no trail effects, or pick a trail you like just to get going... With these two programs running all your corruption issues should be gone; I had an identical problem and this combination took care of the cursor corruption/blink as well as the window corruption. ~RTC
cayman
can somebody tell me how to install it???? I have just some file and dont kno what to do!
helios
RideTheCliche: That solution worked! Just wish that iCursor was UB. It takes like 10% CPU also. What setting do you have on your cursor in iCursor? cayman.. try to download Mighty Mouse and then doubble click on the mouse icon set to install it, or try RideTheCliche's solution. L_X
Ok, I updated the scheme after finding out that in order for the trick to work it is enough to have a cursor image which is more than 64 pixels either wide or high. It is a bit less processor intensive now, and the bugs I had with Q2D are gone. The "retarded square" effect I had when scrolling with smooth scrolling disabled is now almost hardly noticeable. Go to the first post for updated version.
