ATI mouse tearing - a new and better solution

I made a special cursor scheme for Mighty Mouse which eliminates mouse tearing on old ATI cards. This new trick seems to be the best solution so far (cursor even has that freaking shadow), and the only major drawback is that Mighty Mouse is not free and regularly displays annoying reminders.

So, just download, unzip and apply.

(if you get an error when trying to install the scheme just open Mighty Mouse pref. pane (or close and reopen it) and try again)

If you are using Safari, I'd recommend enabling smooth scrolling in preferences/appearence. However in this case the hand cursor (which is not skinned by Mighty Mouse) might still cause some tearing. The solution to this would be using Mighty Mouse together with Mouse Locator or copying file linkCursor.tiffto /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/WebCore.framework/Versions/A/Resources/

Helios... Install MouseLocator with the shadow cursor from:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...hadow&st=40

Then grab a copy of iCursor:

http://www.giofx.net/osx/icursor.htm

Create a custom iCursor that shows no trail effects, or pick a trail you like just to get going...

With these two programs running all your corruption issues should be gone; I had an identical problem and this combination took care of the cursor corruption/blink as well as the window corruption.

RideTheCliche: That solution worked! Just wish that iCursor was UB. It takes like 10% CPU also. What setting do you have on your cursor in iCursor?

cayman.. try to download Mighty Mouse and then doubble click on the mouse icon set to install it, or try RideTheCliche's solution.

This little program works perfectly for me. There is no more mouse tearing.

However, this software is a shareware. It will automatically disable after a period of time.

Yeah!!!

This is the best program I've used!!!

Now only one thing: any kindly man can share me the key for active this wonderful program! ;)

Ok, I updated the scheme after finding out that in order for the trick to work it is enough to have a cursor image which is more than 64 pixels either wide or high. It is a bit less processor intensive now, and the bugs I had with Q2D are gone. The "retarded square" effect I had when scrolling with smooth scrolling disabled is now almost hardly noticeable. Go to the first post for updated version.
