The less powerful one blew from... let's say, unexpected causes... Anyways, so my better Punch is the 10" Rockford is a Stage 2 (200watt RMS), and I'm looking at 2 options: Do I: - Add a 12" Rockford Punch Stage 2 (also 200watt RMS) -or- - Just replace the 10" with another 10" Rockford Punch Stage 2? Which would sound better, IN YOUR OPINION? A 10" and a 12" or a pair of tens? Keep in mind that my sub box is not only closed, but is also DOWNFIRING. Thank God for returns Hey, Dunno if this is too late, but you'd be MUCH better off with a pair of tens - for a start, 12s tend to be sloppy and sound badly defined anyway, and a 10 and a 12 would give you some really strange overtones which would not be good (especially if you listen to anything with a lot of kick like hip hop or rock). bptba93 Posted December 18, 2006 Share Posted December 18, 2006 the extra 2 inchs allow more air to be moved, thus lower and louder lows, but i think it all depends on brand...let's say you have 2 12" pioneers and you have 2 10" audiobahns or JLs or something like that, the best bet is that the audiobahns or JLs are gonna win in loudness but still the 12"s might hit the lows better. that's just my opinion...but do whatever you thinks best! I agree, although in my opinion i'd only go for 12s if you're listening to music where theres a lot of deep bass and its spread far apart in terms of time - for example a broken hip hop track. The reason being that because there is an extra 2 inches of speaker, theres 2 more inches that needs to stop vibrating before the next hard bass sound arrives to not sound sloppy - ideally you want the fastest return to static position you can for your type of music. If you're listening to rock or any dance or breaks then i'd strongly suggest you go with 10s as if you go with 12s you will basically just hear a load of mush at the low end. reghost Posted December 19, 2006 Share Posted December 19, 2006 (edited) Well a pair of 10s would require less trunk space and would sound "tighter" BUT 12" push a bit more air and are boomier in ported boxes, which you dont have. So it depends on what type of music you listen to most. I my self have an Alpine Type R 15". I push it with a Hifonic 1600D Amp. I listen to lots of hip hop though we installed a couple of 8" kickers in my budies F-150 and they hit pretty hard too. EDIT: Well 12s seem to be your best bet.
