This may seem like a silly question, but does all this mean that it will be theoretically possible to run Windows on a new intel Mac?

yes, in fact, apple even said they probably won't do too much to stop someone from doing so. Of course, it would be far easier to put generic windows on intel mac than intel mac os on generic pcs.

http://free.oszoo.org/download.html http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/ QEMU (first link is PPC binary, second is src)
non-free:
http://www.microsoft...x?pid=virtualpc Microsoft Virtual PC (faster, more optimized)
http://www.lismoresystems.com/ Lismore Guest PC (not so fast)
The two non-free are PPC. Also try Darwine - OSx86 native, WINE port ( read up on it at http://winehq.com/ .
