-jordn-
hey there, now that vmware fusion on mac and vmware workstation for windows now have *experimental* video acceleration, do you reckon it would be possible to get Suse 10 to run Xgl/Compiz inside a virtual machine? i read somewhere that all you have to do was enable 3d acceleration in VMware, then pick up your drivers on the internet for your graphics card, and install them (in your guest machine, of course). not sure whether this would work, or if anyone has this kind of thing working... let me know what you think! jordn
Colonel
I would highly recommend that you DON'T try this. Yes, VMWare may have video acceleration, but I'm almost positive that it will be unbearably slow.
joe75
I'm almost positive that it will be unbearably slow. That's exactly what I was thinking, it's hard enough to get XGL running right natively
abcslayer
There are not any 3d acc. in any VM I know. You could try xgl in 3d software render mod -> it's extremely sllllllooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwww.
-jordn-
That's exactly what I was thinking, it's hard enough to get XGL running right natively thats what i thought as well, but Mandriva linux 2007 comes with it pre-installed! i dunno, i may give it a try, it is only a virtual machine after all. if xgl/compiz doesn't work, then i'll just delete the VM and install it natively. currently d/l Mandriva 2007 from the 'noid, will post findings... jordn. joe75
There has been a few Live Cd's to offer XGL but that still doesn't mean it will run good once you have it installed. There are problems that creep up with xgl that can make your whole system unusable, its a good idea to have/know the command for your particular distro that disables xgl when needed
