Hi my IOGEAR Bluetooth 4.0 USB Micro Adapter (GBU521) never worked well. My bluetooth speakers does not work, always lost connection and my bluetooth headphones the same problem!

Does anyone have an adapter that really works?

Peke let me know if it worked well.

This already has been tested successfully by some users in the German hackintosh forum.

or here another one that Sascha_77 recommends:

OOTB, without installing a driver, is recognized by operating system

Well, that’s not 100% correct. It does work oob, but for keyboard and mouse there’s some limitations.

Firstly, the dongle doesn’t work during clover boot.

Secondly, it will lose links after sleep. You need to use firmware kext. Look at the wiki here to see which.

Apart from this, I’m happy with this dongle.

Well guys. I got the Dongle and it was recognized directly. Paired my iPhone and sent pictures by Airdrop.

But it show the devices but connect and disconnects. Dunno if something more is necessary to do.

Update:

Well after reading I just downloaded the latest BrcmFirmwareRepo.kext and BrcmPatchRAM2.kext into /efi/clover/kexts/other

From what im testing with my iPhone is that if the connection is made from phone to pc the bluetooth stays connected. If made the opposite connection with the phone disconnects after some seconds....?¿ Is this a normal behavior?

But Airdrop tested with photos works fine both ways. Even if both are "disconnected" under the bluetooth menu. Its like they know each other and connects anyways just to send the files.  :help:

Wasn’t that one of the latest changes of iOS that the Bluetooth connection always remains alive for „Apple devices like Watch?

I also realized that on an iPad, you’d see the battery status of your iPhone, even if it was not actively coupled.

As far as proper linking is concerned, I had similar experiences.

For Apple mouse and keyboard, sometimes it would couple, but not show their battery status. In this case they also lost their link occasionally.

In this case i had to completely remove the link, remove batteries, etc.

Also, after booting Windows, keyboard and mouse would not reconnect. Pulling the dongle for a few seconds helps then.

You downloaded the last? What “last”?

Because the problem with my dongle is exactly lost connection, it does not retain the connection!

The "latest" brcmpatch kexts by ReHabMan " https://bitbucket.org/RehabMan/os-x-brcmpatchram/downloads/" to do the complete installation as told.

I always lost connection if pairing from pc to iPhone. But not backwards.

But anyways even if i try to pair first from the pc and the bluetooth shows disconnected i can use airdrop both ways without problems.

Did you check if Airdrop works when the bluetooth manager shows disconnected?

Sailor,

Don´t own an appale watch to test:P Just a plain Garmin 235.

What you told from the keyboard & Mouse i heard that behavior and that people do exactly what you told to reconnect them. Did you put ReHabman kexts to test this?

A question for you. Is continuity working complete in your setup? I mean the ones regarding bluetooth (handoff & universal clipboard). Yesterday i was testing emails from my iPhone and my dock showed them but whas impossible to work on them. Just a loading screen and then dissapearing.

Handoff is not working. Installed Kext´s but to no avail.

My wifi has a Broadcom BCM4360 and the dongle BCM 20702A3 with firmware v14 c5860.

If someone has a solution for this would be appreciated.

Still Handoff not working.

Firmware update kexts BrcmPAtchRam2.kext and BrcmFirmwareRepo.kext not updating the firmware when booting. Putting these on "Other" or in S/L/E has no effect. Firmware on first power up would remain in version 4096.

The only walk around I found for the dongle to autoupdate was to boot first windows 10 and later a restart and boot MAcOS. (This solution works and update the firmware to v14 c5860) Sadly this has to be done every time I do a complete power off else it would stick to 4096.

Has anyone paired effectively this Broadcom chipset 20702A3 with wifi Broadcom 4360?

Well, actually I do own an apple Watch, but haven't really put any energy in testing this out, either.

As far as the kext is concerned, I do believe I have to dig deeper into this. I just realized that the firmware is shown as "v14 c4096". From what I understand, it means that the updated firmware has not been successfully loaded?

I will go through the complete how-to again and see where I took the wrong turn.

Also continuity is not working, although I have to admit I haven't even given it a simply try. It was not important to me, I usually finish what I started, before leaving my machine.

Exactly. If "4096" appears then means the update is not loaded. Anyways with that version Airdrops works fine but is more to me to understand why the kexts are not working as it should. My version always update as I boot Windows 10 first every day before High Sierra.

As handoff concerning is not something ir really use but it would be nice to have it working anyways. Just to say I did it  :D

Got it right now, I found my mistake.

I used Repo in Clover instead of Data. Replaced it and it works.

I´l try using Data too. Used Repo before and saw no change so just wiped ram and repo.

After I test with a complete power off without loading windows before I`ll post the results.

Update:

Sailor

you were right. Worked using Data instead of Repo. Strangely the indications told the contrary... But now working as it should.

Regarding Handoff lets see if someone dig more over this in the future.

* For those with the same bluetooth dongle chipset and with High Sierra just put "BrcmPatchRAM2.kext" & "BrcmFirmwareData.kext" in clover "others".

I found that the Bluetooth adapter I had bought years ago worked immediately in macOS.  I use it 24/7 for my Magic Trackpad 2, and it also works with my Bose bluetooth headphones.

It is the CSR 8510, and it's just about the cheapest dongle you can get.  I paid £3 on eBay (delivered) for mine.

It usually shows up on eBay as "USB Bluetooth V4.0 CSR".

Range isn't super-great - I found when I had it plugged into the back of my PC, under my desk, that it sometimes lost connection to my Magic Trackpad 2.  So now it's plugged into a front/top USB 2.0 port.  It's very tiny:
