gazza35
Hi all, i wondered if anyone here could assist me, my laptop is Toshiba Satellite A665. It is pretty much I3, Intel HD graphics, Broadcom wifi, Realtek Ethernet etc etc. The problem im having is getting it to load and install, and im not sure which release of OS would be best as it is quite an old laptop, the main issue being, AIDA64 reports the Bios as UEFI bios, yest there is no UEFI options to choose, it basically looks like a standard Tosh Legacy bios, updated to 2.30, yet all specs testing apps say its UEFI, so thats confusing straight away. I have booted ML and Sierra from USB, but end up with Panics or Waiting for Root device, tried all the usual Intel related boot flags etc, but no joy, gave up trying after 18 hours. I do have a horrible feeling its the bios and because i cant access all the normal UEFI bios settings to disable them its making it hard to install. Any info anyone could provide would be extremely welcome. Thanks.
gazza35
OK so here indeed are the specifics of this laptop - - - ---------------------------------------------------------------- Toshiba Satellite A665 - PSAW0U-0FU033 Mobile DualCore Intel Core i3-380M, 2533 MHz - Arrandale-3M Intel Ibex Peak-M HM55, Intel Ironlake-M Audio - Realtek ALC269 Usbs - Intel Ibex Peak PCH - USB 2.0 EHCI Controller Cant find any info for graphics except INTEL HD GRAPHICS, i think it may be HD4000, BIOS Properties: BIOS Type Phoenix EFI BIOS Version 2.30 System BIOS Date 11/24/11 Video BIOS Date 10/15/09 [ UEFI: UEFI ACPI Boot Optimization Table ] ACPI Table Properties: ACPI Signature UEFI Table Description UEFI ACPI Boot Optimization Table Memory Address BB7DF000h Table Length 218 bytes OEM ID PTL OEM Table ID PTLSWI OEM Revision 00000001h Creator ID PTL Creator Revision 00000001h [ UEFI: UEFI ACPI Boot Optimization Table ] ACPI Table Properties: ACPI Signature UEFI Table Description UEFI ACPI Boot Optimization Table Memory Address BB7E0000h Table Length 66 bytes OEM ID PTL OEM Table ID COMBUF OEM Revision 00000001h Creator ID PTL Creator Revision 00000001h [ UEFI: UEFI ACPI Boot Optimization Table ] ACPI Table Properties: ACPI Signature UEFI Table Description UEFI ACPI Boot Optimization Table Memory Address BB7E1000h Table Length 62 bytes OEM ID PTL OEM Table ID PTLBUF OEM Revision 00000001h Creator ID PTL Creator Revision 00000001h Thats the main info - as you can see from above, the BIOS indeed reports as UEFI, but theres no settings listed in the bios to enable / disable, Like the important one, secureboot. So im quite confused by the bios and there is no further updates on Toshiba, i tried searching for a modded bios thinking maybe it needs unlocking to expose all settings, but sadly i got nowhere with that. gazza35
Thanks, ill try that guide tonight, Getting graphics running properly i can worry about once installed, my main issue is getting something installed and running in the first place so i will tonight try again but with El Capitan, and see how that goes because i cant even get sierra to install. So you have: Intel Series 5/HM55 chipset Intel Arrandale i3-380M CPU 1st gen Intel HD graphics (it's not HD4000!) ALC269 audio You need to refer to the Bible thread on 1st gen Intel HD graphics to determine if your laptop can fully support OS X/macOS or not. http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/286092-guide-1st-generation-intel-hd-graphics-qeci/ Don't waste your time on your BIOS, use it as is. Oh and ive since discovered that the download for that usb installer is long gone lol, cant find it anywhere
