Unable to replicate working install. Getting “unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\""

Dear IM

After buying a new graphics card i had to update my bios before it would give any output at all (also in the bios).

I now have a working setup on an old HDD (testdisk). It even works with my new graphics card using Lilu+whatevergreen kexts. Yay :D So far so good...

My problem is that I can't seem to replicate this working setup on my SSD no matter what i do.

  • Disk 1) HDD with working 10.12.6 setup.
  • Disk 2) SSD Also 10.12.6 where i keep getting the following error:
Panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff80122d7624): "unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".\n"@/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/xnu/xnu-3789.71.6/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1672

I have tried the following:

  • When i clone the entire disk onto the SSD with clonezilla everything works: Which tells me the ssd is not at fault. - And yes i could just keep running that setup, however not knowing why it works is kind of un-easing for me.
  • Replacing entire "CLOVER"-folder + rebuilding cache with Kext Wizard -> Same error
  • Replacing entire EFI partition contents + rebuilding cache with Kext Wizard -> Same error.
  • Replacing clover installation (reinstalling multiple times mimicing the config). -> Same error.

From what i can see no kexts in "/S/L/E" differ. Also no kexts in "/L/E" differ. Except for one: RemoteVirtualInterface.kext (VMWare Fusion related i think)

The disks are slightly differently partitioned differently both using GUID. Disk 1 has only one partition (+recovery) where as Disk 2 has 2 partitions because i plan on installing windows later).

I feel like i am completely missing something here guys... Where might the culprit be hiding?

Thank you so much for your time in reading this post.

Any thoughts and any help will be greatly appreciated I am hitting a wall here.

Best wishes Morten :)

Double check your BIOS. Since you updated the bios it may have reset some settings. Also did you originally install OSX on the HDD in IDE mode? This may be cloning over. Good Luck.

Thanks a bunch for the input!

The bios setting where reset during biosupdate so i changed them after... The HDD i booting fine so was thinking of the bios as not a variable?...

I am not familier with IDE-mode? How can i check if this is the case?

PROGRESS:
I managed to reinstall a working system. I found out that i had (probably) installed a legacy boot EFI-folder on the boot-partition. Removing that folder and the boot-file... and/or reinstalling clover for non-legacy boot... the same error still occurred.

On a freshly installed disk i was able to get rid of the error when i installed in the ESP only.

HYPOTHESIS:
So far so good :)... I am unsure why it would work this way. Maybe something had been wrong because of an old legacy-boot install on the boot partition (not the EFI-partition)... Maybe something situated in the MBR?...

RELAPSE:
Today I removed som kexts and later placed them back in the exact same clover-kext-folders and now the error is back and i can't seem to shake it :(

I have used the following tools:

  • moved kexts in finder
  • used kext wizard to rebuild cache
  • NOT used the clover installer in any way.

CONFUSION:
I dont know what is going on. Might this be something i should clean up in the Clover shell?
The linked photo shows output from entering my clover shell in a photo.
