fearandleb
Hi, I managed to run my X9Dai X79 with dual E5-2670 v1 Sandy Bridge including Power Management on High Sierra. All fine except I get random freeze of the System. Sometimes it runs a day or more, then I get freeze all half an hour. At every freeze, the Disk LED is constantly on. I do not get crash reports or anything. Have to power cycle, but System boots without Error Message or anything. Nothing special in the logs, also I kept Console Log open and no unusual activity before the freezes. More freezes I suspect when the System SSD (Crucial, APFS) is under load but can not confirm really. Is there any way I can debug this? Its really annoying. Thanks all for help. Sierra however worked without flaws. Attached my ready to boot clover config (UEFI) with Serial and UUID stripped. (Need to regenerate). Just add serial and uuid and copy to EFI Partition. Thanks! aerz
I have the same problem. Radom freezes on the High Sierra first loading (login into desktop) and sometimes on copy big files. I think that is a problem of APFS, but I can't test an installation with HFS+.

kjp4756
I've had this happen on my legacy system with a samsung 840 ssd on apfs and trim enabled. Since disabling trim I haven't had any freezes.
fearandleb
Hi, thanks. Yeah, I did disable Trim and sata agressive link power management at the same time. So I can not exactly say what the root cause was. But no freeze since then.

kjp4756
When do you have those slowdowns? I only have after login password. I usually get the freeze after I wake from sleep and start browsing the web in chrome. I had it happen again last night. I was in chrome after I woke my computer up then everything froze. Mouse wouldn't move or anything and the hdd led was solid. So I guess disabling trim didn't help. I did try a clean install of high sierra after the freeze last night and so far things have been good.

kjp4756
Clean install didn't help the freezing. It was bad a few days ago where it froze 4 times on me. I've since disable time machine automatic backups and it's been stable since. So far it seems time machine may be the culprit for me.
muis87
Hi I installed Sierra. Having now stable system.. imac 12,2 1. install without boot flags.. 2. Disable TRIM (in terminal) sudo trimforce disable reboot. 3. sudo rm /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.mediaanalysisd.plist (For my motherboard) DSDT FIX: (FOR SLEEP ISSUE) Here is the fix. Dump your ACPI tables with F4 in Clover GUI. Open DSDT.aml in MaciASL (Boot with Installer USB) Find RTC device and change all it's code with this Device (RTC) { Name (_HID, EisaId ("PNP0B00")) // _HID: Hardware ID Name (_CRS, ResourceTemplate () // _CRS: Current Resource Settings { IO (Decode16, 0x0070, // Range Minimum 0x0070, // Range Maximum 0x00, // Alignment 0x02, // Length ) }) } Thats it! Wake works like a charm.

Wake works like a charm. Had a freeze this morning after waking from sleep. I was using imac11,3 and recently changed to macpro5,1; no change. I did check out my DSDT and the device rtc section is almost identical to yours; mine was called RTC0 instead of RTC. I changed to RTC and we'll see what happens now. I am seeing reports of this problem happening on real macs. It appears to happen on older machines. I did come across a post saying it should be fixed in 10.13.2. I'll see what happens once 10.13.2 goes stable and if I continue to have problems I will have to put together a new PC and retire this old girl. fearandleb
I can now say with certainty that the cause of my problem was the Agressive Link Power Management. It did not had to do with Trim enabled. So if you have High Sierra installed on SSD and with APFS on the Root Volume (10.13 - 10.13.2) and encounter sudden freezes with the SATA LED constantly on, you have to disable Agressive Link Power Management in your BIOS. This is on a X79 Supermicro X9Dai.
