I am already running High Sierra 10.13 (17A405). I was going to do a fresh install. Boots from USB drive then I select the USB drive in Clover it starts to load. Then I get the picture of the trackpad and keyboard telling me to switch them on they never get discovered. I also tried using a USB mouse and that does not get recognised. The only thing I can think of is that I am missing something in my Clover install on the USB drive.

your machine has more USB slot id's then can be reported on HS by default. you need to plug in the usb mouse in different ports until you get one that works in HS installer, or download one of the many different USB extender extensions that extend the # of available USB slot id's from 12? to 36+.  after that you should be able to use any USB port on your computer, and depending on what USB port the Bluetooth controller is flagged to use that may also resolve that issue as well.

just my 2 cents.

I now have it getting as far as the reboot to install High Sierra on the SSD but then I get the message that High Sierra can not install on this machine.

You have given absolutely no information about your system, it will be likely impossible to get help without taking time to list your hardware as a start at least.

"Photography, Fly Fishing and Hackintosh." this is not enough information :)
