Hi fellows of this great forum. I am currently learning some programming so my time to investigate on hardware for my beloved good old Hack is very little.

Specs are as follows:

Gigabyte EP45 UD3LR   (LGA775)

Intel Core Quad Q6600

Custom case made out of a 1995 Pentium and some acrylic.

6GB RAM

NVIDIA Geforce 210 1GB

BCM94360CD with custom PCI adapter WiFi and Bluetooth working awesome

Artic CPU Cooler with Heatsink

2 yellow 20" fans

Custom made power button

I would like to upgrade its CPU and its GPU, to the maximum of its capabilities, with Mac OS X compatibility.

What CPU and GPU would you reccommend without breaking my wallet?

Thanks ever so much

If I understand well, you still do want to keep your LGA 775 motherboard? If you do then all quad Q96xx or its equivalent in Xeon E54xx, as long as they have sse4.1 instructions support (macOS High Sierra).

About your GPU, all PCIE-2.0 supported GPU, maybe some PCIE-3.0 GPU's but they performances will be downgraded, due to the PCIE-2.0 limits. In any case, your power supply should be powerful enough for use in the best conditions.

Yeah I would like to keep the motherboard, so I thought of a Xeon 54xx as you mention.

The Power supply is a semi-modular Corsair 600W,

Do you have any recommendation on GPU for PCIE 16.0x v2.0  ?? Specially would be nice if it works OOB with Mac OS X.

Thanks for the advice
