Tried the "ALC882_AppleHDA_v0.4b.mpkg.zip" installer...

Gives me Line-out, speaker out, digital out, line in, mic in...

...but only until next reboot...goes back to HDAudio output only and Parallels complains again being unable to use sound device...

what can i say? great stuff, after only 3 days of various half baked

installs, i finally got it all to run and thanks to sg i am no able to go

hear some sound and connect to the interweb. writing this on osx

on my e6600 and p5w dh.

i've been using a jas 10.4.8 of some irc guy and it works good now.

just that i still have to have the dvd in the drive for otherwise i will

not get anywhere. and once i'm in win and want to get back, i just

change the partition settings of the osx one to "active" eh voila.

i do have a few issues though.

a)

the restart thing doesn't always work. at times it will just go to the

blue screen with the rotating slashes and that is it. other times it

will hang way before that.

startup is the same, most of the times it works. other times it just

stalls. either it shows the grey apple logo and rotating slashes thing

for ever or it manages to load the system up and then have the key-

board working, but the mouse only works for clicking, but you cannot

move it :D .. or door 3 which is, i get the screen with the darkish win-

dow telling me in several languages something is off or whatnot. hard

reset and voila.. hmm

just for info, i'm running an e6600es @ 400x9 on the p5w dh dlx with

an x1900xt and i have not clocked any of this down or even went as

far as going back to default for the install. after all windows runs 24/7

with these settings. installed the semthex kernel, the combo intel, the

x1xxx pcie patch and that was about it. with the usb-patch the kbd and

mouse wouldn't work...

i've just set the fsb to 400 in com.apple.Boot.plist and that seems to

have fixed the speedo clock for good. now i'm checking whether any

other anomalies are there... but most important sound and ethernet

work now. thanks again SG!

after all this is a nice tryout, as i've already placed an order for a

macbook pro with a friendly dealer... and so far i have to say... i like

this os a lot (sorry for the rant).

to get USB working, install this :

http://rakis.net/~justin/p5w-dh/IOUSBFamil...2_Intel.pkg.zip

just mount the image, and install the one that doesnt have -log at the end.

more information about p5w-dh and osx can be found here :

it was just the apple usb2 drivers posted on their dev site for x86 macs. if you installed the usb2.0 drivers from jas and your usb stopped working, you would need to install those drives from apple. if you skipped the 2.0 install on jas dvd then you shouldnt need these for just keyboard/mouse support, but it will give you usb2.0 support.

my dvd burner isn't detected anymore  can i edit a Kext to resolve my problem?

detected in what? does system profiler show it? can it just not burn anymore?

check xlr8yourmac.com they have a nice drive compat section for burners etc with information on how to get them to work in unsupported by OSX. at the very least Toast should work with it.

Quick question for all of your Asus P5W owners. Have any of you got the OS to detect when you have a headphone plugged into the Front Audio ports? Or a mic for that matter? Seems like my front panel audio isn't working at all. Sorry to all of you that had specific questions for me, I know I started this thread but some issues in my personal life took me out of the hackintosh game for a little while, but now I'm back and happy to report all is well AND I have my ATI card running perfectly with dual DVI out and everything.

So if anyone has any questions in the future please feel free to ask.

You need the AppleHDA solution for that, check this topic for that: link.

Yep, this board along with the few fixes that SG pointed out give the user a completely usable mac installation.

Now, if I can get some wireless internet going, I can use it fulltime.

The wireless is on the way. Realtek actually has a mac driver for it, but it wasn't a universal binary, the recompiled it and are beta testing it this month. It should be out by next month and we'll have wireless on our boards too.
