With the above, custom clocks and fan fixed, it's working perfect with RX & FE! No more overheating nor crashing during heavy use (fortnite ).

Hi @okrasit,

can you help me with my VegaFE LC?

I think i'm too stupid, i tested it, but it does not work.

With Wattman i set GPU Frequency +3%, GPU voltage little bit lower, Memory to 1045 and max. power limit.

I think... I'm too stupid for the VegaSoftPowerTableEditor.

I found this thread here, http://extreme.pcgameshardware.de/overclocking-grafikkarten/486587-amd-radeon-rx-vega-64-und-rx-vega-56-overclocking-undervolting-thread-post9017138.html

but I have no success, and I found that: GFXCLK should be flawed for FE owner, so rather proceed manually

is there a chance to overclock a full water cooled Frontier Edition to 1650MHz GPU and 1045 Memory Clock with a modified kext?

Thx!

Now its working. I can see PP_PhmSoftPowerPlayTable in Ioregistryexplorer!

And 2000Pts more with Luxmark.

Try the hotel lobby on Luxmark, it's less memory speed dependant. Also, there's the 1750MHz version, if you're willing to try. ;)

Hey @okrasit huge thanks for the info. AFAIK this is the first time somebody found (and shared) a way of fixing this.

I followed all the steps you provided replying to SammlerG. I get no errors during the process but when I reboot the fan keeps spinning like crazy. I repeated the procedure several times (with both the 1750MHz and stock configs) to make sure I was not doing something wrong.

Hope you can help, thanks again for sharing!

I'll modify those higher clock versions with this fan fix later!

Fan goes full blast on load but returns to 700rpm on idle (eventually, it takes a while ).

I'll modify those higher clock versions with this fan fix later!

Hey, really appreciate your reply.

I think there is something wrong with my system. I tried the config you just posted and same result. When the system boots the fan is probably spinning at 500-700rpm but a couple of minutes after login, the fan goes full blast again and it doesn't stop until a metal process is open (YouTube or QuickTime) as it has been already pointed out here.

Is there any way to check wether the patch is applied correctly? Because it seems like it is not working for me :(

Thanks again!

You can easily verify with Luxmark, see if the clock frequency has changed.

Also, try this:

100rpm to 2300rpm!

I did some googling and found that some people have had problems with "normal" kind of pwm fans on the LC. Maybe the pwm is inverted, so try this too if the one above doesn't work!

you can use IORegistryExplorer to read core & men clock.

Look at your graphics device -> AMDRadeonX5000_AMDVega10GraphicsAccelerator -> PerformanceStatistics

you can find all information in HEX -> so convert to decimal

just wanting to confirm , can this be implemented through an SSDT? i see the results showing in ioreg, but dont really see any performance gains on a vega fe (air)

Not sure about the SSDT/DSDT but as a Clover kext patch, I think, yes. The reason I started fiddling with this,  FE & RX64 Air were crashing due to overheating. There's really no room for overclocking with the stock cooler, actually, it can't even handle the stock clocks.

which is why you clocked it down from 1600>1442 im guessing?

alright. well maybe you can help me out. my issue is when it comes to metal, previously ive been able to bench it at just over 205 000 in geekbench. but now all of a sudden im getting around 180 000. i tried just for the hell of it the 1642 and it makes no changes with metal, the 1442 increased luxmark open cl by ~3000 pnts, but had no effect on metal...

any ideas on how to bump up metal performance?

also are you running an ssdt on your machine? if so, anyway you can share the section for the vega just for me to compare with.

Actually, if the metal api bench is the same as the OpenCL, it's totally useless. The actual kernels are driven on the card like less than a second each.

I'd guess it's due to some changes in the metal api... That said, it's a shame there isn't a good benchmark for MetalAPI for non-apple gear. :(

Try playing Fortnite and you can feel the difference yourself.

LOL! ive been trying to not fall into the trap of that game! lol

since i dont have access to windows. are you able to post the string to keep the stock clock speed but with your fan adjustments?

I added it to my earlier post! Let me know if it's stable with that 1150mV core voltage.

1600MHz version too...

is there any control to get the fan to spin down to idle speed once a set temp is reached? it seems to get to idle temp and stay at full speed for a little while.

Nope, that's how apple & amd have designed it to behave.

Hi everyone,

Had a "Golden Hack" with 1080 + P400 until 10.3.3 became unusable :wallbash:, so I updated to 10.13.4 (17E199) and got a Vega FE .

OOB, it shows up as Vega FE 16GB in About Mac and displays over all 4 ports, but Luxmark and Geekbench both report no compute device.

I have tried various combinations of latest versions of lilu on/off, whatevergreen on/off, boot flags on/off. Also tried injecting ATI and/or intel on/off. Never seem to get acceleration.

Can anyone point me to a start config for 8700K (config and kexts needed)? I'm clearly missing something stupidly obvious.

Thanks!

Have you tried disabling the igpu?
