Dell XPS One 24 (A2420) last issues

I got for not much money this all-in-one-system and it's rather nice, especcially the very bright 24" 1920x1200 display is great. It has a 25W JBL speaker system with subwoofer, a slot-in DVD drive on the right, USB, Firewire, Audio and card reader ports on the left side. On the back are more of these ports, also a video-in connector (needs a breakout box) and an antenna jack. It's used f.e. for DVB-T, so it's a Mini-PCI-E card which can be used for other purposes. The XPS One has a nice feature: Come with your hand next to the right side and some touch buttons light up, for volume, DVD eject and display off. Mouse and keyboard are from Logitech, the keyboard has an inbuilt trackpad and some sensor function keys which light up blue (except record which is red). A pairing button is on the left back side of the computer.

Working on 10.6.8,10.9.5 and 10.12.4:

 

- Audio (VoodooHDA)

- LAN (AppleIntelE1000e.kext)

- WLAN (Broadcom43xxFamily.kext)

- Bluetooth

- Firewire

- Logitech devices

- eHome Transceiver (with Mira 1.5)

 

WLAN nees the driver for 10.6, 10.9 works OOB, 10.12 doesn't work at all.

Sound over speakers is a bit problematic, there's loud noise if the volume is too high. I tested various VoodooHDA.kext settings.

 

Not working:

 

- Sleep mode

- Ricoh card drivers (tested modified VoodooSDHC.kext)

- Only a few hardware sensors are recognized

- Additional media keys on the keyboard

- Touch keys on the device

 

As usual the biggest problem is the graphics, this will follow now a bit more detailled.

Of course, it was clear that it would be difficult to get an Mobile 9600 GT working. But it's not so bad at all. If the Clover settings are correct, it is detected as 'Asus GeForce 9600M GT 0 MB'. The card will work in VESA mode only, and it's not even too slow. Sometimes are artifacts, which will disappear quickly. Only in Sierra the graphics are very slow, but Sierra is also on my other systems much too slow. While booting, the nVidia kexts are initialized, these are loaded:

The problem is, booting without nVidia VESA mode the screen switches black. I presume the EDID is wrong and set to the wrong monitor output. The computer doesn't have a second output.

 

But it gets worse: It's not possible to read out the EDID information or the Video BIOS with Darwin Dumper. Well, the Video BIOS I got from Clover, but I haven't found a way to get the EDID information. I don't have Windows installed and I'm no Linux expert.

 

Not enough? The display has also a speciality. The support said that it was made by Samsung, this should be 0x1099. But I get these ID's

Device ID: 0x0717

 

Isn't this a bit long for a vendor ID? Or had anyone else 8-digit ID's yet? In the IOReg entries this ID is used, too. This is the IODisplayPrefsKey:

So, has anyone an idea how to fix EDID information or nVidia settings to get the internal display working? I never had an nVidia card, my ATI cards worked much easier. But it can't just be done by Andy's FixEDID tool and DisplayMergeNub.kext, because I'm using mainly 10.5 and 10.6 on this machine.

Hello, I still have no full graphics support for my machine. I also have to mention that it has a nVidia GeForce 9600M GT, not a 9300. I've installed Windows and got some EDID information:

I inserted it in Clover and added the set the Vendor ID to 0xC43A and the Device ID to 0x0200. DualLink and BootDisplay entries are deactivated, also any patches depending GFX0. Doesn't work with one or two video outputs, Windows device manager shows one entry. Still no success, always a black screen.

Any ideas?
