Funky frank
Hi, since the upgrade to Sierra 10.12.4, it seems that the screen is only displayed in 24 bit depth, instead 32... Transitions will show a stepping effect... Using a ATI HD7750 with enabled hardware acceleration. Also seeing this on my nvidia gt330m machine since the upgrade. Any idea how to switch to 32 bit? Or determine which mode is used? I also activated Nightshift using the FixEDID tool.

Funky frank
Ok, it says "10 bit color per channel", but still I can see a stepping on smooth transitions. Is it maybe introduced due usage of nightshift?
Funky frank
It is like this: In the login screen, I see that b/w background, which pretty looks normal. After entering password, some profile seems to kick in and the same background looks very reduced in color depth. Any ideas?
Slice
24 is another name for 32bit A8R8G8B8 which is 8 bit per color opposite to 30bit A2R10G10B10 which is 10 bit per color not concerning alfa-channel, transparency.
Funky frank
Strange, so it is a bug maybe? It looks 32bit in Windows 10. I have no more ideas. I disabled nightshift completely, no change. But it seems to see my monitor as "projector", maybe thats the problem? Or is smbios imac14,2 causing this?

Funky frank
Hi, 1. Select that black/white lightning backdrop under settings->desktop 2. logoff your account and see that now blurred backdrop Do you see a heavy staircase effect in that blurred transitions? I do so on a 10.12.6, nividia and a 10.12.4 and system. Obviously here the macOS system display doesn't seem to use a 8 bit range per colour, but something below... Is that a bug? Please have a look:
