HOW TO GET A RUNNING GUI ON AMD/INTEL WITH "Nebukadnezar"

You do ALL this from a normal working install of mac os x86!

Make a test partition hfs + journaled 10GB should be enough

Insert/mount your install dvd (10.4.4 and up)

Go to System/Installation/Packages on the dvd

Run OSInstall.mpkg

Choose your test partition and customise the install and uncheck everything (1st thing should remain checked as u cant uncheck it)

When its done remove/unmount the dvd.

Download the 10.4.5, 10.4.6, 10.4.7, 10.4.8 delta updates (NOT COMBO) (intel) from apple (the file names should be MacOSXUpd10.4.5Intel.dmg, MacOSXUpd10.4.6Intel.dmg, MacOSXUpd10.4.7Intel.dmg, MacOSXUpd10.4.8Intel.dmg)

Mount the 10.4.5 update dmg

Copy the pkg to your desktop

Right click on it,then click Show Package Contents

Go into the Resources folder, find InstallationCheck and drag it to the trash

Close the finder windows and run the 10.4.5 update pkg from your desktop

Choose your test partition and wait for it to be done.

Do the same for the 3 remaining updates (10.4.6,10.4.7,10.4.8)

Note:

If for some reason you cannot install the updates this way (happened even to me once),open the pkg with Pacifist, select everything under the pkg name (but not the pkg itself, since then it will extract to a subdirectory, and we dont want that) and click extract.Choose your test partition, and when asked click Replace (you can check the box too if you dont want to click 100 times :))

When that's done,go into your test partition,go into System/Library/Extensions and remove AppleIntelCpuPowerManagement.kext (drag it to the trash and empty the trash), enter your root password when it asks...

Download this (get link on IRC)

Double click the file to extract it

Copy everything from there into your test partition's System/Library/Extensions overwriting the old ones

Copy the IOATAFamily.kext from your working install's System/Library/Extensions folder to the test partition's extensions folder

(like this in terminal :

sudo su

*enter ur password*

rm -rf /Volumes/Test/System/Library/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext

cp -r /System/Library/Extensions/IOATAFamily.kext /Volumes/Test/System/Library/Extensions/

Download this http://www.sendspace.com/file/cnvhfw

Extract the kext to the test partition's System/Library/Extensions overwriting the previous one

Run Disk Utility and repair permissions on your test partition.

You're done with the preparations, now on to the real deal

Now we have to install the kernel and decrypts (get them on IRC)

Download the kernel and decrypts

1) unzip the archive to the root directory of the test drive

2) reboot and at the darwin prompt, press the down arrow to select your second partition then type: -v -s -legacy

3) once darwin has dumped you to a prompt, type: mount -uw /

4) type: sh replace.sh

5) type: ./patcher -v amd_rufus_1048.txt

6) type : cd /System/Library/Extensions

7) type : chmod -R 755 *

8) type : chown -R root:wheel *

6) reboot and choose second partition again then type: -v -legacy

Remember each time you boot, you will need -v and -legacy for now.

Thanks for the instructions Semthex.

However I think I'll wait for the PPF because I have a very slow connnection (200 kbps).

Now my question is which DVD should I download to use the PPF with?

The JaS 10.4.8 on the green demon or another one.

Also, I have the 10.4.7 JaS DVD, can I use that one with the PPF?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to your SSE2 patches.

Ahmad

Can I installed 10.4.8 kernel on a running system too?

I have no sperate Partition because i use an 4GB HDD for the Installation.

I can change the files with onyx too. Right?

you cant just install the 8.8.1 kernel

its gonna crash and you'll not be able to boot in -s mode

it needs MORE things to modify

ALL the things thta semthex suggests in the guide

i have downloaded the 4delta updates(600mb)

i cant try this method now cause i have a 4GB old IDE disk for testing OSX

*question above from someone : which JAS DVD to download

search at demo and oink (only there) for the 10.4.8 of 4 november

this is the correct one and in this the ppfs are gonna patch

*im not sure that the ppf patch will be "small" in size (for you with slow connection)

if all this steps steps go in ppf patch it will need 600+mb of files (the 4 delta updates)

but maybe all this files are allready in jas patch

i dont know jas will do for the patch

we must w8 ...i hope it will be working easy

otherwise i'll buy a 80GB new disk for 40 euros and i will go with this guide

its not such difficult as it looks :(

but its A LOT TO DO and if something goes wrong...you cant be sure what was it

you don´t understand me.

My only question was if i can use a running system to upgrade it with semthec´s tutorial.

If i download the updates you post thats over 600MB. Right.

But i can download every update seperatly and install them.

The only one problem is i hope my system run after the upgrade like semthec´s tutorial.

At least a question. What is ppf????

ppf is a file

that will patch all the iso you will download

and will add/modify things

about the other question

i dont think that you'll be able

to follow this guide in a working OSX

if you manage to reach the last step without restarting ok

but when you'll start installing the delta updates

.5 .6 .7 .8

99% the system will crash

so the goal of this guide is to prepare the osx in another drive (partition)

and when is ready boot from it

Okay I show to another harddrive.

I have an image wich included 10.4.5 and 10.4.6 updates.

Have i leave it blank on the menu and don´t install it automatic?

Because so i need only 10.4.7 and 10.4.8 for Intel.

Or must i install a pure 10.4.4 osx?

I have looked for another hdd but nothing.;-(

Can i use vmware to install in vmware osx (i hope its not hard) and than to extern hdd (4GB) install this with new kernel?

I think no, right.

Anybody knows how long we have to wait for an automatic update/ppf/complete dvd?

since JaS just included the ULi sata support in his new 10.4.8 reseed dvd, no earlier version of tiger will even begin to work on my system... i'm still waiting for the image to download, just need an amd patch after that... sooo....

is there a clearcut way to go about adding the amd sse3 patch to JaS' new 10.4.8 install? i don't have a preexisting osx86 system to install on (or apply updates to) as my harddrive has been unsupported til now... assuming i can add the amd patch in, JaS 10.4.8 reseed will be my first attempt at osx86... understandably, i want to streamline this as much as possible.. without sacrificing my windows partition

i've looked through the guides, but they all seem to deal with updating previous OSX versions and swapping kexts... not brand new installs from scratch.. which is what i'll be attempting

i want to stack my deck.. if that makes sense... individually, all of my hardware is supported under the JaS reseed, just awaiting the advent of the sse3 amd patch that's in beta... overall, i'm sure there will be bugs, and i want to be sure i can iron them out without destroying my computer

i'm such a noob. thanks for your time any whom reply

Hi all

I tried this method, but no luck, but I guess I'm very close.

After patching and decrypting I got a message that some files in Frameworks directory couldn't be found (no such file or directory) and then got some error during first booting, but could see that that was 8.8.1 kernel. There were actually MacVidia kernal panic errors, cause I forgot to remove some files of the driver.

Then I removed it and repair permissions, boot up again, and got this:

that's from log:

(92: coreservicesd)tfp: failed on 0:

/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LangAnalysis.framework/Versions/A/Support/LAServer.app/Contents/MacOS/LAServer: kCGErrorInvalidConnection : CGSGetNextEventRecord: Invalid connection

than

dsFindDirNodes returned -14071, count = 0

dsFindDirNodes returned -14071, count = -1610603584

Couldn't find root user. Sleeping and trying again.

I was searching for on the forum, some people got dimilar problem, but no solution

any ideas?

Just one question:

When I follow the HowTo in the first posting of this thread, am I able to use the following configuration

with GUI and QE/CI working? Assuming nothing wrong is happening!!!

AMD 64 3700+ (San Diego/SSE3) on nForce4 chipset

nVidia Geforce 6600 GT

Semthex, on the instructions listed on your webpage you recommend using the 10.4.8 Jas Combo AMD SSE3. I have an X2 4200 and the SSE3 gives me kernel panics. I can update to 10.4.8 Jas Combo AMD SSE2, think you're guide will still work?

Thanks.
