rpw32
After several days, I have finally gotten my system to boot using my XFX R9 280X without the integrated card (Intel HD 530) but it is giving me strange graphics artifacts and screen tearing and the UI/dock bars are also not transparent as they would be with working graphics. While on the integrated card, everything was pretty fluid and I got the artifacts to go away using some tricks found the on the forum. I was wondering if there was anything else I need to edit in order to get the card to work properly as I am already loading the ASUS R9 280x BIOS as suggested (although it's possible I may be doing it incorrectly) and have experimented with a couple frame buffers (Hamachi and DashimakiS) although they both seem to produce the same result. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. 0000-1248
Try different display connectors. Gotta start simple Reflashing is something to try afterwards, a failed flash can lead to many problems, however to know if it is an OS X issue, try it in Windows and play some games. Artifacts on Windows means bad flash and/or bad card. No artifacts on Windows means a problem with OS X. Experiment with that first, see what happens. If it fails, you should modify your framebuffer to suit your display connectors. My 270X has a modified Futomaki framebuffer and two displays work with no problems. Try finding a framebuffer with the same number of ports on your card and follow this guide. Best of luck, - Matt

I will look more into the frame buffer guide although radeon bios decoders were giving me errors last time I tried. I have been using this card on Windows for a few years playing games and using other applications with no graphical issues so I would have to think it is an OS X related issue. I also am on macOS Sierra. Do you know if that makes any difference with compatibilty?
0000-1248
That won't make any difference to compatibility, as the driver kext is still there. For reference my 270X is on Mavericks. It is interesting that the radeon decoders gave you errors though; that may throw a spanner in the works. I'll take a look into why that might be happening. One thing you could try is to boot it in safe mode? Perhaps that will allow you to use the decoders, but I'm not completely sure. Edit: Also, did you play the games on Windows before or after the new BIOS flash? If they were run on the original XFX BIOS than it may be worthwhile to rerun the tests with the ASUS BIOS. rpw32
I guess I should have clarified that I have not actually flashed the ASUS v-bios. I only used clover and loaded the v-bios on boot. I now have the computer booted using the integrated graphics and it recognized both cards but will not show any display if plugged into the hdmi or dvi ports on the R9 280x. 0000-1248
I see. Have a go at actually flashing the ASUS v-bios as XFX cards have issues with their own one. I don't know whether it will make a difference, but it's worth a go. After that, if you still have problems you should try the framebuffer modification. The decoders didn't work probably because of the v-bios 'clash'. Flash the ASUS Bios on to your card and post the results. Make sure you also have a copy of the original XFX Bios in case something goes wrong. Best regards, - Matt
rpw32
Okay, I will look into that for sure. How likely is it that it could go wrong and how possible is it to fix it in the case it does?
0000-1248
Most modern GPUs have a dual-BIOS setup. Check your manufacturer's website to be sure, although I would assume so since my 270X from Sapphire has a second BIOS. In this case, if something goes wrong you can just flick the switch to the backup BIOS and the card will go fine until you can fix the original one. If something goes wrong during the flash (which is quite unlikely) you can just activate the other BIOS and re-flash the first one with the proper XFX BIOS. http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1701722/gpu-bios-switch.html There is a short summary of the BIOS switch present on your card. Fun drinking game, have a shot for every time I said 'BIOS' in my message Good luck, - Matt
