USB Audio Headset on Sierra VM on Windows host

With apologies for cross-posting on the tutorial....

Hi All,

I'm running a "vanilla" Sierra vm on Windows host with vmware workstation 12 (from here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/309556-run-vanilla-os-x-el-capitan-sierra-yosemite-or-mavericks-in-vmware-workstation-12-on-a-windows-host/).

I have a usb headset that doesn't work.  Audio plays haltingly or not at all.

I have tried these things to no avail:

  1. reinstall vmware tools
  2. set USB on VM from USB 3.0 to USB 2.0
  3. Used Audio MIDI setup to tweak the headset format.  (I have tried 8, 16, 24, 32, 44, 48 X1000 Hz).  The lowest frequencies work slightly better (but still not good enough for headset use).

Any suggestions?  Best, greg

Have you tried plugging it into USB2 on the host end to see if it makes a difference? Give it a try and make sure it's set to USB2 in VMware. Last time I checked, the USB3 chip that VMware emulates isn't natively supported in OS X. I haven't dealt with audio devices but I've noticed using USB2 on the host end for various devices just seems to work better with OS X in VMware.
