bgrau
Networking: was working in 10.4.7 and before. In 10.4.8 with semthex: I have two network cards, one integrated Intel - works (cable modem). One PCI card 3Com - doesnt work anymore. I tried replacing IONetworkingFamily.text, but I get a kernel panic. I extracted the Apple3Com kext inside the IO* and tried loading it on its own, no luck. I put in Device Id / Vendor Id Info in IONet*.kext in the Apple3com*.kext, and no luck.... Any1 lucky? Thanx Edit: This is now fixed with advice of a kind dude in irc: Use IONetworkingFamily.text from version 10.4.3, add Device Id / Vendor Id to Apple3com kext in Plugins of IONetworkingFamily.text. Now PCI NIC is recognised and loaded 100% fully working system: CPU Machine Name: DELL Dimension 8300 Machine Model: ACPI CPU Type: Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU Prescott with HT & SSE3/HPET Number Of CPUs: 1 CPU Speed: 3.6 GHz L2 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB CPU Features: FPU VME DE PSE TSC MSR PAE MCE CX8 APIC SEP MTRR PGE MCA CMOV PAT PSE36 CLFSH DS ACPI MMX FXSR SSE SSE2 SS HTT TM SSE3 MON DSCPL CID Memory: 1.5 GB Bus Speed: 3.2 GHz Boot ROM Version: A05 (Dell Computer Corporation) Display: Radeon X1600 Series: Chipset Model: Radeon X1600 Series Type: Display Bus: PCI VRAM (Total): 512 MB (real) Vendor: ATI (0x1002) Device ID: 0x71c2 Revision ID: 0x0000 Displays: VGA Display: Resolution: 1024 x 768 @ 75 Hz Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Supported Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz 2D Extreme: Supported Quartz Extreme: Supported Rotation: Supported USB High-Speed Bus: Host Controller Location: Expansion Slot Host Controller Driver: AppleUSBEHCI PCI Device ID: 0x24dd PCI Revision ID: 0x0002 PCI Vendor ID: 0x8086 Bus Number: 0xfd FCD-Classic: Version: 4.07 Bus Power (mA): 500 Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec Manufacturer: Freecom Technologies Product ID: 0xfccc Vendor ID: 0x07ab System Software Overview: System Version: Mac OS X 10.4.8 (8L2127) Kernel Version: Darwin 8.8.1 Boot Volume: MACOSX Computer Name: bgrau’s Computer User Name: bgrau (bgrau)
DiaboliK
. Never try to use onboard LAN, i think it's Yukon. other than that everything works. Onboard lan on the 915gux is supported grab the network drivers from a JaS 10.4.3 disk and it should work. i should know i have one. everything supported. working on sound in and out (out works but not in). and your fsb speed setting should be
Tommy
thanks everyone, my clock seems to be normal now. with fsb=133 my xbench score drop from 108.46 to 69.44 but i don't feel any differences. oh my onboard audio which i believe to be AC97 is not working. Tried to use Sigmatel Driver from 10.4.6 with no luck. Any advices?
cardinal
It seems Asus is having issues with the new kernel and networking, and usb for some users, this is not a mix-matched isntall anymore, maybe a new HCL is need for true 10.4.8 installs ? No networking here either, although ifconfig is saying that eth0 interface is up, but DHCP or manual setup don't get me on my LAN. Works fine in 10.4.6. Considering how many ASUS 945-based mobos are in use on this forum, I would like to hear if anyone has working sound/networking with 10.4.8. compu-tor
I'm having problems with sound, even with AZALIA package selected on Install. Check permissions, could not get mine working without this. sudo chown -R root:wheel AppleAzaliaAudio.kext sudo chmod -R 755 AppleAzaliaAudio.kext cd /System/Library sudo rm -rf Extensions.mkext Extensions.kextcache sudo diskutil repairPermissions / reboot

If seconds take longer then they actually are on your PC, you will get a fake high score.
willgonz
I can't get the RTL8100C to work on my 10.4.8 Jas install. The audio works fine, but the network does not. I have a ASRock P4Dual-915GL. Any tips? Thanks
dasepsilon
mmh, installing 10.4.8 from the fixed jas dvd gave me not only the persisting bug with "about a mac". further opengl didnt work. third, it simply killed my windows partition info, so i had to recreate the parition with fdisk in linux. it was /dev/sda4. empty space after install. is this normal? can anyone give me instructions how to ONLY copy the relevant semthexkernel onto my existing (oldkerneld) 10.4.8, without using the installer on the dvd? simply copying the kernel and starting it yielede strange not found erros.. To copy kernel - either use Pacifist or manually copy the kernel and rename it to mach_kernel Also do "chmod 755 /mach_kernel"
