asapreta
For those who have already tested the new 10.4.8 JAS (not the first "all" 10.4.8 release) please post the experience and your specs here!
Guest bikedude880
Fast, mostly stable (still a few kinks), not quite reliable yet. What I'm getting at: Don't scrap your current install yet. There is still a ways to go. Specs in my sig. Also, do not PM me with questions about: 1) Compiling your own kernel (commpage.c), 2) "Can you give me the magic poem?", 3) "How did you get such-and-such to work?" Thanks. You got the new one from IRC? Interesting to see your benchmarks. JaS told us that the "About this Mac" issue is related to MoBo Manufacturer. If´s not an Intel one, Finder will logoff. jjlucas76
:D:D:D Well this release is really amazing: Installs in 10minutes Everything works out of the box except Audio (Just copy AppleAzalia), and Video with Boris 3.5.mpkg I am now migrating from previous OS and I have to say that there is a great improvement on speed and stability now we are very much set until the next cat, relaz and enjoy it. Kevlar
I used JaS' first release of 10.4.8 with mifki's kernel.. I can honestly say it's ALOT faster, everything is working, x1600 with Boris 3.5 installer. I expected no problems going in, JaS is a genius and sometimes to work around a little bug all you have to do is use some of your own brain power. Also, back in the days of the first 10.4.3 release when I got into this scene, I built my machine to be as compatible as could be. About This Mac works, I replaced iCal from my previous 10.4.8 install. And I am very happy with the results. xBench went up a little, but nothing to jump for joy about. Everything just feels snappier. It was a smart decision to put 2 HDs in. Formatted my XP drive Carbon Copy Cloned my main drive to the second drive.. Formatted my main drive, installed from the DVD and Migrated all my files and settings back. Migration Assistant is a wonderful thing done by Apple. I have not noticed one bug at all. murcielago585
so are you guys saying Jas has already released his second version of the dvd? if yes, does it fix the booting with dvd issue?
Rammjet
so are you guys saying Jas has already released his second version of the dvd? if yes, does it fix the booting with dvd issue? The testers have it. There will probably be a minor tweak to it before it gets released. If you can boot the JaS 10.4.6 or 10.4.7 DVD, then you should be able to boot the new 10.4.8 DVD. rizzopro
Hi All... I have a Dell Dimension 4700..after reading all the posts and absorbing the info..heres what I did. Booted Jas DVD 10.4.5 and used disk util to partion the SATA HD and rebooted into the Jas 10.4.8 and choose the Mifki kernel The install went fine with no problems. My machine booted right up and 10.4.8 is running fine. evan xbench showed a 20 point lead! I was getting around 60 and now Im getting 80!! I also did the patch for the "about his Mac" thing..all worked no problem I then installed an ATI X1600 Pro and used the Neopheus driver version 3.5. all working okay...would love to get the DVI and SVideo ports working. This Dell has been up and running with no problems for like 3 days or so. Ive installed DVD Studio Pro, Final Cut, Photoshop, Toast etc and ll working fine! Thanks Jas, Neopheus, Boris and everybody who put this together!!! Any Ideas when DVI out will be working?

BuXb
now I am TOTALLY confused .. :-(( I was part of the IRC crew thanks to JaS and just booted this new DVD which JaS said was based on the 10.4.4 restore DVD and with mkext without IOPCCardFamily.kext & AppleHDA.kext, but it boots with Semthex kernel = 10.4.8 and panics again after 3 seconds with IOPCCardFamily.kext, as did the first release that got corrupted. Now this really beats me all the way now .. :-(
