Fixed on ASRock Conroe945G-DVI. But I think this will work on other systems.

Restore /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app from 10.4.4.

Also restore /System/Library/SystemProfiler/SPPlatformReporter.spreporter from earlier version to get Hardware Overview working properly.

Your welcome. BTW, smbios is from 10.4.4 too.

Thank you Topaz.

I don't like replacing new files with older version, but since it's the only method right now, I have no choice ;)

My kernel, mifki's version, has the built-in robot.

r u using decrypts?

cause im also using custom install and it wasnt working

Me too. Let me know if you get something working.

you are great man!

works perfect...

now its time for a geforce 7600 gt :)

I am trying to locate the file using Pacifist but, I just can't.

Where the hell is it?

loginwindow.app located @ System/Installation/Packages/Essentials.pkg

the other located @ the same location only this time it is in BaseSystem.pkg

This is from memory so do not blame me if I got the location wrong :sorcerer:

So this fixed the unknown cpu also ? good find ;)

Maybe just going back to 10.4.7 loginwindow would do the trick ?

Only one way to find out.

Too bad I don't have an SSE3 computer to test it out on. ;)

Oh, and BTW. Just wanted to thank you for all the hard work you've put into this 10.4.8 release. I feel like you've really gone above and beyond what you had to do. :D

I don't know about that JaS, With my 10.4.7 JaS install Dvd, I still could never get it to show the right info, But I have a bastered build with 10.4.8 w/ semthex kernel that I was able to upgrade from your dvd that I couldn't boot from. Yes I upgraded, I think your right, If it's not an intel, good luck getting it to boot. Also I wouldn't recommend the upgrade to Novice Users.

Is there a compromise in that?

I think (as far as I can tell) the root cause of loginwindow-crashing is SMBIOS data which is mobo dependent.

Your BIOS creates this SMBIOS data and is read by AppleSMBIOS.kext which populate your "/rom" device tree. About this Mac calls loginwindow to read this data; however, data from some mobo must be in format that newest loginwindow has problem with. Older loginwindow can deal with it much better.

You have seen "0 Mhz Unknown processor". Haven't you?

Same here. It dosent crash for me. My install was from the Jas 10.4.8 dvd ( HD format w/10.4.3 Disk util)

;) bastered build :)

TopazBar, I use cpus=1 and have no troubles with ATM crashing, but there is no info in Hardware.

When I enable both cpus I have all kinds of crashing even a reboot :D

Would your fix, give me info and enable 2 cpu

Also my GMA950 is only showing 64mb and should be 256mb, would hardware fix this?
