JaS Posted November 1, 2006 Share Posted November 1, 2006 Okay well with all the issues with the last dvd,I just went back to the good old 10.4.4 restore dmg as a base for this reseed. I also removed the kexts that were giving some users with laptops kextload issues and boot failure.AppleHDA and IOPCICard kexts (Thanks to james2mart for reminding me ) , And the Callsito kexts I ahd i nthe mkext are removed also(might have been the cause of the black screen for some users). Erasing the hdd and partitioning now no longer has any issues and no more bless issues. Ical no longer is corrupted. If you want to get on this before its going public join irc.macspeak.net #JaS.DVD and request a link,if we still need the ppl you will be given a link. I tried installing 10.4.8 from your latest DVD (Intel SSE3 only), thru VMWare, and it doesn't boot, it gives that kernel panic error. Any recomendations? Thanks! One thing I would like to try to understand regarding the DVD: when you say that you are using 10.4.4 as a base, do you mean only as booting DVD itself on 10.4.4, or using 10.4.4 as base that will be installed on our computers? On a similar note, can you comment on how our installations will be different from real 10.4.8, other then custom kernel and some necessary kexts to support our BIOS-based systems. JaS Posted November 1, 2006 Author Share Posted November 1, 2006 I am saying 10.4.4 restore dmg converted to a bios bootable dvd and then the 10.4.8 combo update I built and extra pkgs.Once installed the only differences from a real mac os x 10.4.8 install and yours will be efi patched out and some older kexts for hardware support,and you can not update system updates from software update ( say that 3 times fast ) thats it. I would expect that GMA950 would work without problems on any versions to come because it's an official video card in real Macs. GMA900 it's not. Can someone lend me a hand here? What else should i try besides what i did already (repair permissions by hand, older versions of the kext (10.4.7)) with the garbage display result? I mean that by following the method above, everything including GMA 950 (in my case) works fine. Just sound didn't work (Sigmatel 9220). I repaired it with the installer from JaS 10.4.7 DVD. Out of interest, if one had a motherboard with EFI, and a graphics card with EFI (like a flashed X1900XT), would it be possible to put enough of the EFI stuff back in for the graphics card to work perfectly?.. or would there be umm, issues?.. thanks for all your hard work JaS.
