d915gag intel board with celeron d 346. using mifki kernel

915G kext doesn't load

Airport kext doesn't load for my atheros pci card (worked flawlessly before)

No sound

No crashes when about this mac, and Ical is simply corrupt. Just copy it over from working installation and it works.

The OSX 10.4.8 works much more stable.

BUT Network-Card is not functioning. It worked on 10.4.6

Sound: like on almost every Asus-Board. If I use the actual microphone jack, the sound works fine.

Asus P4P-800X

OnBoard-Network Realtek RTL8139

P4 3,0GHz SSE3

1,GB RAM

iCal and the DVD-Player didn't work at all

First time the install failed, the second time it works well.

I just installed w/o any language or printer driver selected. Only the box for Semthex kernel was checked and it installs like a charm.

See my hardware spec in the signature, please.

What doesn't work:

-Sound (haven't tried to patch, will do this soon...)

-About this Mac (GUI crashes)

-System Profiler doesn't present overall spec infos, other infos were presented smoothly (ata, memory, graphics etc.)

-iCal is corrupt

-network doesn't work (using my Marvell Miniport ethernet, SMB also)

-can't boot from harddisk, have to use the install disc (means there is no option to boot up in verbose mode or something else...)

-x1600Pro --> BorisBadenov patch 3.2 won't work, after installing the patch OSX will hang up while booting (just see the bue status bar with the message "Starting OSX")

I will try mifkis kernel, too.

Most annoying is the f++king network problem and the issues with the ATI x1600 card. But good work Jasser...thanks a lot!

Just tried to install, but I get the "Still waiting for root device" error.

---- EDIT ----

This error appears when booting the installer(with the -v flag)

---------------

My mainboard is: ASUS P5ND2-SLI (nForce4)

DVD drive is connected as secondary master (I switched it from primary master as I thought it might make a difference).

Also a HDD drive is connected as primary master, along with 3 SATA discs.

Is there any known problems with Nforce4 for 10.4.8, and perhaps some kind of workaround?

Perhaps there's some way of using a generic IDE driver - if anyone knows, please post.

Any help would be appreciated.

Working well so far:

following this tip:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=31724

I booted into 10.4.6 jas dvd, used disk utility from there to redo the partitions (wanted to create a backup partition) and then erased each partition with HFS+ journaled.

rebooted using 10.4.8 jas dvd, installed, rebooted without dvd and it went right into the new install. everything seems to work except for Apple system profiler, which seems to crash the Finder, which automatically reloads (the Finder).

So I can't use ASP to find out about Quartz Extreme and Core Image, but adding a new widget to Dashboard produces the ripples so it appears to be working out of the box. But am stuck at 1024x768 res...

so I download the Neophus 3.5 ATI driver installer and install that, which gets me 1680x1050 back, and QE/CI seem to be still with me.

Currently loading Final Cut Pro Suite from original disks and will report on that.

so far, so good!

I believe that "About this Mac" crashes, but System Profiler should still work (although it has problems)

Go to the Utilities folder and run System Profiler from there.

It installs, but I don't think I'll stick with it.

I need to boot from the DVD every time (Leave the DVD in and let the installer timeout and it'll boot). Although that way i can't set the FSB.

So I put the fsb sped in com.apple.Boot.plist and it seems to be faster.

But sorry to say, nothing that worked in 10.4.7 works in this release.

GMA900 doesn't work, Realtek 8139 doesn't work, Sound doesn't work. Finder falls over when clicking 'About this Mac'.

No offence intended here JaS but I wouldn'tve released this until the new kernel was a bit more polished.

Although you did much better than I could!

Think of it as a giant Beta-test. That's what I'd like to see in this thread - trends.

Looks like Network cards are having trouble, and some errors with specific Kext's on bootup. Gives us pointers on what to look at.

Keep the posts coming - please limit them to:

Hardware used,

Upgrade (from what?) or fresh

What works, what doesn't

What errors are you seeing when you boot up (kernel panic, dialogs, what crashes, etc).

Thanks!

Black screen on Dell 6400 laptop - Initial grey Mac screen, then Black screen (no curser, no GUI). System seems to keep on booting.

Tried to boot with Jas DVD.

Compiled semthex kernel and installed.

Compiled mifki kernel and installed.

Tried various BIOS and boot parameter changes (-s -v -x cpus=1, platform=acpi, etc...). Result - Black screen.

Even verbose mode goes to Black Screen after initial kext loads (I believe ACPI is the last to load).

Dell 6400 Laptop

Core DUO 1.6 GHz

GMA 950 graphics

It appears this kernel or the kexts may not provide GMA 950 graphics support (or support for laptop LCD ...) ?

This laptop also ships with ATI graphics - Anyone get it to work ... ?

Cheers ...
