[SUCCESS] Clover doesn't use saved settings: USB 3.0 incompatible?

I have a weird problem, Clover doen't want to save settings and show other bootable OS X drives. Here's my configuration:

- Mainboard GA-Z77N WiFi, Core i7 3770S, 16 GB RAM, Intel HD4000 only

- Completely configured as Legacy with MBR

- Clover is on own primary FAT32 parition

- Clover version: 3835

- OS: Mavericks 10.9.5 on partition 5

I've configured the mainboard as Legacy with MBR because I also have Legacy-only systems and my multiboot-systems need MBR.

Clover is located on the first partition, it's formatted in FAT32 to write ACPI if neccessary. I also wanted to Clover it on a seperate partition, if a OS X system crashes, the boot files aren't deleted.

I'm using two Windows, two MacOS and Linux on one drive because it's a small ITX case. But that's not the problem, it works fine.

Clover and Windows need primary partitions, so the Mac OS X partitions are on 4 and 5, that's the first two logical partitions inside the extended MBR partition.

So, what happens? I can write the Clover config.plist and nvram.plist (located in / of my Mavericks partition), but after every reboot nothing happens. I'm getting the plain grey default clover boot theme. Although I have set my Mavericks partition as default, is not. I also added my Clover partition to the drive list that shouldn't show up, but it's still there. I have no idea what to do. I also made a complete BIOS reset, I formatted the partition new and made a fresh Clover install, set the partition active again with fdisk440, still no success.

I always used 'boot7' or 'bootL'. After the install tion of Clover 3835 it now was set to 'boot6', it took a long time, and after a while appeared a number and a message 'Not found'. After pressing a key I got the typical "X64 Illegal Instruction' message with a scrren full of red values, you probably know hat I mean. I have to use 'boot7'.

So, any ideas? Comments like 'Why don't you use EFI?' won't help me. I need the Legacy/MBR combination and the same method with the seperate boot partition works fine on two other Gigabyte Core i7 boards and two modified Socket 775 boards with are using now a Xeon. I'm using it also on USB sticks and it works, too. It's just the Gigabyte GA-Z77N WiFi where it is not working from harddisk.

Greets, naquaada.

I read somehere that Clover Configurator doesn't saves settings, but it does. Only the boot screen won't change, and I can't boot from other drives, USB and so on.

On another computer I also can't boot 10.6 and 10.5 with Clover, always stops with 'Not Yet Set'.

I am seeing something similar, make a dup or copy of the config file.

when you boot press 'O' and under the config option chose your copy and press 'esc'

when I do this the theme shows up.

I cant get the preferences pain to work eather.

Is this a bug?

I have spent many hours playing with it, LOLing.

Some other things I noticed in Clover:

1: Now it's possible to use for booting a lot of options at the same time by selecting checkboxes, but is the 'ignore caches' option missing? I've installed new kext directly into /System/Library/Extensions, but it was not possible to recreate the kext cache by a checkbox. I had to go into the options menu and add manually the '-f' option to the kernel options. Is there another name for this option?

2: Input. I never had mouse support, neither using PS/2 nor USB. I'm using Legay boot mode, fromer 'L', now '7'. A useful fuction would be localized keyboard support. It's a bit difficult to find the US keyboard layout on non-english keyboards, especcially for beginners. For example, on the German keyboard the " is on Shift-Ä, the * on Shift-8 and the minus '-' on the key 'ß'. Clover is set to 'de' on my system, the help menu is German, but the keyboard layout is still US.

3: Language support: The Clover installer should always have the possibility to set up the language. It would be best if this will be done after selecting the components of Clover, so it will be more obvious. This is especcially useful if the keyboard layout is supported. Detecting the language from the system would be a nice feature.

4: To the installer itself: Is it always using default settings, so no config plist and smbios? I don't know, so I'm copying the plist, dsdt.aml and my themes folder always manually. It would be a nice feature if there is are two new options 'Use last settings / Clean install'. Last settings should be default. These options should be set right to the top that they are easily noticeable.

5: What about the boot file, will the configuration set it correctly? In earlier versions the default was 5, not it is 6. The ones with are using legacy mode or older boards (like me) have to change their bootfile manually to boot7.

I solved the problem, at least on my system. I'm always using on every OS X system an extra USB stick for private data, it also contains a bootloader as backup. I used on my Gigabyte board an USB 3.0 port because it's an USB 3.0 mini stick.

Now I created on my GA-Z77N WiFi an special USB 3.0 stick with two install systems and two bootable systems and tested it on my GA-Z77-DS3H, also on a USB 3.0 port. As usual, just a grey screen with the default theme, not even all drives appeared. Well, I had to do something else, so I unplugged the stick. As I wanted to try again, there was my selected boot screen. It took a while to realize. I was too lazy to use an USB 3.0 port because it's not on the top and my tower has a door which always closes automatically. So USB 3 is the problem! I changed the data USB stick on my other board from an USB 3.0 port to USB 2.0 and voilá - it works, no problems anymore.

So it is an USB 3.0 based error, check this out. I tested the XCHI settings Smart Auto, Auto, Activated and Disabled in BIOS, 'Legacy Only' mode. It only worked correctly in 'Disabled' mode. So check this out, because I already had Clover compatible to USB 3.0, probably around version 35xx. My USB sticks are all from SanDisk, and I tested on Gigabyte boards only, so other hardware should be tested. My actual Clover version is 3882.

For some other issues check my post above.
