well how can I have anything working if the install from DVD kernel panics after 3 seconds :( ???

However, I neither have any mind nor the time to get into this kind of messing right now ..

Oh well, back to the drawing board, guess I will try to get a good place in line for any future ppfs or patches :(

I installed with SemtheX kernel and everything went OK until the "restart" at the end of install. I got a black screen with flashing cursor. Re-installed 10.4.7, no problem.

I got the same error as you. Specs in my signature (and you will notice that I've gotten 10.4.8 booting with GUI before the DVD came out, so I know it's possible.) It could be that the Disk Utility from the installer screws up the partition scheme on the disk.

Anyone else have the install crash and tell you that you need to reboot? I wonder what causes this... If you've had this happen, open up the log (Command + L) and take a picture of it when it crashes. Be sure to select "Show Everything" from the drop down menu on the Log dialog.

oki i am gonna install it from another macosx installation to another partition...

Just tried that. It also crashes that way. I'm trying to install it from pacifist. It could be that there is a corrupt package in the Essential software group.

I'm burning my copy right now, which kernel do you suggest i use?

I would try mifki's as it looks like you have everything to run it.

I've created a new Primary, FAT32 partition off a secondary SATA drive in my computer (one that does not have Windows XP installed on it).

I created it before the current partition, so my hd looks like:

|new partition| |existing data|

I've installed Arconis Disk Director suite. I'm going to attempt to install and I'll edit this when I finish.

For reference I'm running Core 2 Duo T6400 with 2GB PC5300 RAM off a Intel D975XBX MB with a All-In-Wonder 2006 PCI-E. I imagine if anyone can install this correctly it'll be me!

delete the two kextcaches + panicing kexts

None of the install DVD's have any kexts. They have the kext database file Extensions.mkext. They do not have an Extensions.kextcache.

You would have to have a working 10.4.8 installation with the subject kexts removed and then copy the Extensions.mkext to the DVD to accomplish what you want. Of course, getting a working installation in order to fix an installation DVD is a catch-22. Perhaps an Extensions.mkext taken from an installation created from one of the Combo updates would work if you first removed the offending kexts and built an Extensions.mkext for that configuration.

JaS, very sorry to say, but in the current form your DVD won't be usable for many people, esp. for those like me with Laptops: you have Semthex' 10.4.8 kernel load right @ DVD boot + 10.4.8 kexts incl. kextcache. There are two kexts that cause a kernel panic on many Notebooks as posted in the forums: IOPCCardFamily.kext and AppleHDA.kext.

Same Problem (IOPCCardFamily.kext) here. Seems Apple has "fixed" Cardbus-Support in 10.4.8 to detect

my Texas Instruments PCIxx12. Had the same Crash while trying to get this IOPCCardFamily.kext to work.

Looks as if your FSB speed is not set correctly. E.g. your conroe should show a CPU score of at least 110.

I'm just wondering what might be causing me to hang here: on booting to the dvd, either straightaway or with the mifki kernel, they both hang right after the line:

Extension "com.apple.driver.iTunesPhoneDriver" has no kernel dependency."

Any ideas??

I need help.

First installed mifki kernel.

That one installed nicely.

When I'm trying to boot, the PC just shutdown imidiatly.

So I can't press F8 to enter boot options, like FSB=333

Second I installed sempthex.

When I'm trying to boot, theres a black screen with a "_" cursor, flashing, and it doesn't stop..

What AM I doing wrong ??

Disappointing, to say the least.

I have all the ingredients and the magic 10.4.8 files, I'll see if I can cook something up myself :sorcerer:

Happy Halloween :gun:

I have the same problem as 2 others mentioned before me.

The installation process goes fine, but after rebooting it just comes up with a black screen with blinking cursor. No darwin or anything, no errors. I tried fixing permissions via the install disk, that didnt help. What's up? :gun:

My config:

Asrock P4I65G mainboard s478

Intel Celeron D320, 24GHz (prescott core) running on 133fsb. (or 266 or 533, depending on how much it's multiplied :P)

2x512DDR400 (pc3200) running at DDR333 (pc2700)

ATI 9600 Pro vidcard.

Edit 2.4Ghz of course :sorcerer: Not 24 :P

My god that is one screaming proc! :sorcerer:

On another note, I'm still running the install through pacifist to see if I turn up any other package errors.
