Nothing special here

remember if you use lilu, nvidiagraphicfixup and applealc kext to update it to latest version before updating

also use a recent clover version, in my case 4318

 

Hi Fabio! How did you managed to update to 10.13.2

My sistem won't update to 10.13.2 from 10.13.1

It download the update then restarts and begin to update then shortly restarts after 1 min...but no update changes!


looks like working on update but ..it docent finish or sorting like that!

RAMPAGE-V-EDITION-10-ASUS-1801 patched with uefi patch

 

if it can help:

to avoid to flash an old bios to use flashback you can try this step

 

1) before using flashback button press clear cmos

2) power on system and on press F1 standard message power off system

3) now you should can use flashback method without reverting to an old bios to have a working flashback procedure

 

this method is working also (tested by me) on Rampage V, Deluxe II and Rampage V extreme 10 Edition with their proper and renamed firmware

Hey fabio did u managed to get a hang of the overclocking on anandtech? would be nice if it could work on hackintosh :)

I know i need a patched bios and some efi file just don t know which one they are a bunch there .

Will the efi file go into clover -drivers64UEFI folder?

Tomorrow i will explain in detail as i have understood it
You need to boot without Cpu microcode on bios
Then you have to inject efi(different from OS X/hackintosh stuff
There are many version with push bios features but it safe to start with minimal one and then raise value to push clock higher

A bit Off topic here...but for Xeon V3 owner should be a must :-)

For V4 xeon owner.. no way! :-(

I don't put here any tools to do it. You cand find googling or on anandech forum thread

 

Pay attention 1:

I did many tries and dual Asus bios saved me a couple of times

Prerequisites:

 

X99 system

Asus motherboard (it is working also for Others vendors but differences in method and i have no tested

flashback or similar option to flash

Windows OS or a virtual machine with it (I have tried on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit)

 

1) image 01

 

find on anandech forum or googling UBU 1.69.x and mmtools

 

2) (image 02)

 

run UBU.bat and load your original motherboard firmware ( in my case 1801)

UBU scan it and send back some data and an error (not important for our task)

press any key

 

3) (image 03)

 

now starts our bios modding

if you have an haswell EP xeon or a broadwell EP you have to proceed in different way

in this guide i have produced a modded bios for haswell EP

so, take a look on image 3 and on data listed in point 7

to have a "working" bios able to allow overclocking on turbo xeon V3 core you have to delete Haswell microcode (0306F2)

remember also if you have a cpu with microcode 0306F1 this method or exploit as they call it DO NOT WORK

press 7 and go on point 4 :-)

 

4) (image 04)

Here you can see all microcode in your bios (could be different from mine but you have to focalize on 0306F2

press 1 and go on

 

5) (image 05)

 

here the core of this hack :-)

System ask for some choices to do

first in my case for broadwell EP microcode

my original is 1C you can leave confirming it or put 21 as i did in this example

the system ask for haswell E microcode

here you have to skip pressing 0

In this way microcode is deleted as you can see in image 06

 

6) (image 06)

 

take a look on selection 7

now here only Broadwell E microcode 21 (no haswell )

You can press 0 to exit and then (mandatory) press 1 to rename correctly by software your bios for flashback update

 

07) (image 07 08)

 

You have finished to mod your bios and you can find the modded one inside mod bios tool folder

 

Very important to understand here is you have done anything modding to your motherboard by now, only your bios file is modded and prepared to be flashed with flashback procedure if you want

 

After these steps you have to flash as usual via flashback and if your system boots and works fine as Always you can try to inject an efi file for V3 Xeon cpu

In anandech thread you can find many of it.

I would advice to start using the basic one without adding voltage part...and you should see immediately some boost on all cores turbo from 2.8 to 3.0-3.3 Ghz for all cores (E5-2696 V3)

Then with some adjustment you could reach higher frequency

 

to inject an efi file you have to prepare an usb pen with shellx64.efi and start from it (on it also your V3.efi file)

then in the shell you can write

fs0:

load V3.efi

exit

boot with your usual disk

 

I have tried to explain in clover general discussion if it is possible to put this efi in driver64uefi..but i have no success to explain it clearly to coders/devs :-)

I have tried to delete microcode for Broadwell but my three system (x99 deluxe II, Rampage V extreme,Tampage V extreme 10 edition) do not boot and have a loop on bios with latest code visible A2 on Qcode

​my system starts correctly if i delete V3 microcode..but unusefull for overclock Xeon V4

 

Last words (for now)

@ this stage is not possible to unlock turbo cores for V4 Xeon cpu

​some people on anandech affirm with a dual asus motherboard z10Pe WS (D8/d16) to boots without broadwell microcode but without any result on unlocking all cores

​I have no clue and i have not tested it directly so i can't say nothing of usefull for it

Thanks fabio for the explanation it looks pretty risky specially if you don t have a dual bios, I think i don't have it on the A2 .

I'll do some more research don't wanna fckup my system

yep

Now people are selling V3 CPU higher on eBay..but for me is a non sense

a 2696V3 with a modded bios could reach a benchmark similar  (slower but pretty near) to a 2696V4 in rendering

But, If I have to choose I will prefer a 2696 V4 and so 2696 V3 price today are overpriced...imho


PS.

if I had yet a 2696 v3 I would mod my mb...a little risk is there but performance is like you buy a new 2696 V4....or less

but you are good doing more research :-)
