Hi forum

After using El capitan for a couple of months without a problem I found this message on booting ( clover -v). After this message my laptop halts in 3 seconds.

"invalid volume file account"

After googling and finding some info about this problem I guess there's no reason to reinstall EC all over again, since it seems to be a "minor" problem..

So, I need help to bypass this point and boot the OS like I did a couple of hours ago...

I've uploaded a picture with all of this screen info.

Thanks in advance

boot to the recovery partition and run disk utility first aid

if you don't have the recovery partition which you should

then load EC installer if you still have it

go to Disk Utility and choose the drive that has EC installed and run first aid for that drive

after that simply reboot and see if that solves the problem.

i agreed that the best option is to clean install but he said that he don't want to clean install because is a "minor problem" i think is better to try to repair it first without clean installing but if it can't be fix like that then he has no other option but to clean install. if he wouldn't ask to avoid clean installing, i would it have recommended to clean install. no doubt

also this is why i always have an extra bootable mac os system on a spare hard drive to deal with this kind of situations, also i always keep a backup, i also found a way to convert carbon copy cloner backups to dmg so i can also restore the system from any windows pc using transmac. so that way i can always find a way to load my mac system, then from there i can fix what ever needs to be fix

Well.. It wasn't a minor problem. Basically Disk Utility couldn't help me ( didn't repair the disk nor fixing permissions at all). So basically I had to finally reinstall it all over again..

Anyway.. Id love to know why this happened since I didn't touch anything nor install nothing which I could assume it caused this disk problem. Just using photoshop and send some emails is all I did after restart my laptop..

Thanks a lot iamtheonlyone4ever . Your last comment helped me a lot. I realised that the best option is to clone the drive periodically so as soon as I found a kernel crash or something like I had today I got the option to restore everything in a couple of minutes.

Id be really pleased if u tell me how you convert a carbon copy cloner backup to dmg.

Thanks again

this is the instruction to convert CCC to DMG

this is using EC disk utility

open EC disk utility go to the menu bar in the top and look for

images then convert

look for the CCC sparse image file

select the file and click open

enter a name without adding any extension

just the name only and click ok

just in case

encryption = none

image format = compressed

this is for those using Yosemite Disk Utility in EC

Double-click the sparse image to mount it

Open Disk Utility

Select the sparse disc image

Click "Convert."

Enter a name for the DMG image that you want to create.

Select "Compressed" from the "Image Format" drop-down menu.

Click "Save" to convert the sparse image and create a new DMG file
