Trouble getting Online....

I just about managed to get Yosemite running thanks to the help from Dwarfy's tweaks and Allan. I need to get some graphics drivers to start with.

As I was logging on for the first time, I was asked to configure the network connection. I skipped it because it was a bit difficult and I didn't have the information handy. I thought I could do it later.

But now when I try - I have problems. When I open the Network Setup Assistant, all the options are greyed out. "Telephone modem" is pre-selected and I can't seem to change it - I have broadband and am using Ethernet to the broadband modem. Diagnostics is not detecting the LAN connection either.

Clicking the plus sign In the Networks selection generates an error box "Preferences Error".

Does anyone know a solution for this?

I added Intel Mausi ethernet kext in her EFI/Clover/Kexts/10.10.  it is the latest Mausi kext, which got modified by Mieze to have more support for 10.11. Not sure if that is causing any problems. However, the kext is easy to remove, but why do that when that is the kext you need.

I suggest to try this fix:

Go to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ and delete these files/folders:

  • CaptiveNetworkSupport
  • Com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
  • Com.apple.eapolclient.configuration.plist
  • NetworkInterfaces.plist

Go to System Preferences > Network, select all available connections and hit the Minus button to delete them, then hit Apply. Reboot

Go to System Preferences > Network, hit the Plus button to add the devices back, but be sure to add Ethernet first.

Good luck, I know you can do it. Just never give up, you've come so far with this. Awesomesauce!

And in this motherboard there's Wireless device too, right?

I used a Asus Z97 Deluxe, and the WiFi works OOB  :)

Yes there is wireless but I use the Ethernet - I don't like wireless.... I didn't even check it.

You're absolutely right, many of the ASUS z97 boards got the BCM4360 card, which is oob. Unfortunately this board hannele2 got does not have inbuilt wifi card. :(

Thanks Dwarfy - great instructions!!! I am really helpless in Mac I don't know how to do anything.

I will try it later today.... Hope u'll be around. I need to have the laptop and the desktop next to each other so I can use one to go online while I work on the other.

I'm really happy with how far I got already. Next - I'll do the laptop! :)

I didn't need to do anything! Just start Yosemite for the second time!

So you were quite right that you had included the correct Ethernet drivers in the build that you made. I saw it too - in the verbose dev startup mode.

Next thing for me to do is to try to install some proper drivers for the graphics card..... The graphics is a bit shaky right now. It's not right.....  And sound!

It's really exciting! I really like Mac

But to be honest   I don't think I would have managed it without help..

It just requires some reading and debugging. hehe. You would've managed fine alone, we just helped quicken the process. :D

Though we would be here if you need help, also try the chat. Many good people at the chat. :)
