llamafilm Posted July 22, 2016 Share Posted July 22, 2016 Since I have a Broadwell-E CPU (6950x), I thought it might make sense to set SMBIOS for iMac 16,1 because that machine uses Broadwell CPU. But this causes the error mentioned in the title, probably because that iMac never came with Yosemite. Is it possible to run Yosemite with this SMBIOS, even though that iMac was made for El Capitan? Dwarfy Posted July 22, 2016 Share Posted July 22, 2016 It would be wrong to use that SMBIOS with an x99 processor. And always try to use latest OS for the public with the latest hardware. Afaik 6950x is very new. I recommend you find other guides and articles with similar hardware ...or at least close to similar. I think Pike's script already contains Broadwell-E code. That pull request you linked seems to add Broadwell-EP (Xeon). The xcpm stuff sounds interesting though, I guess I should start a new thread about that. So I gather the answer to my original question is NO, there is no way to make Yosemite run with an SMBIOS of a machine that was designed for El Capitan. al6042 Posted July 23, 2016 Share Posted July 23, 2016 Sure... since the installer checks the system definition from the hardware, not the cpuid... Try to set it to the iMac15,1 and you will have the same error trying to install the first two releases of Yosemite (10.10.0 & 10.10.1).
