Greetings,

As I didn't find any method to do this after seeing somebody with a desktop hack who has done it, I decided to pull up my sleeves and investigate how is this done ...

Using Activity Monitor, it turns out that, on El Capitan, the image is stored directly in the System Profiler app.

To access the image, use Finder to navigate to: /Applications/System Information (right click and hit "Show Package Contents")/Contents/Resources/SystemLogo.tiff.

Go ahead and modify that. I used Photoshop CC for this.

You can also create a new TIFF image of size 512x512 and a transparent background.

A note on System Integrity Protection (SIP):

My system has System Integrity Protection (SIP) off.

Haven't tried with SIP on, but in theory, it is NOT going to work.

Will update if I find any more details.

Edit: turns out that our friend @fantomas1 has done a video, but I didn't notice it.

Would've saved me the effort, but it was a great educational experience nevertheless ...

Attached is the original SystemLogo.tiff file, should you need it.
