Lost DV-out after installing FCP 5.1.2 update

After updating my P4 (so SS2 only) Jas 1.4.7/1.4.8 box to QT 7.1.3 (required update) and then to FCP 5.1.2 via System Update I have lost the previously working DV-out and DV-preview of FCP 5.1.

Could it be the QT 7.1.3 screwed up/replaced a few system files regarding DV-out?

The Audo/Video Settings of FCP 5.1.2 still lists Video Playback on Apple Firewire PAL (720 x 576) which worked fine before the update.

How can I find/replace the offending system files or drivers?

How can I revert to QT 7.0.1 and see if FCP 5.1.2 is adversely affected by the downgrade of one of its components?

Thanks for your help.

trash your FCP prefernces first...

all 4 preferences.

Did that, though they were hard to find. Using Spotlight helped me finding them.

Trashed them and got Firewire DV-out working again.

Now I only wish I could use my Canopus DVX Card in FCP ...

Great program, that FCP by the way!

Thanks for helping me out.

preferences files for FCP

how to trash them

(moderator please stick this thread) and change the title)

Rules for trashing FCP Prefeerences:

1. Do it only when FCP isnt working as expected

2. Never with FCP running

3. Never delete the folders

4. Allways trash all preferences files at the same time

5. Allways empty trashcan before restartig FCP

Ok How to Trash FCP preferences

in the folder

USER/library/preferences/

delete

com.apple.finalcutpro.plist

in the folder

USER/library/preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/

delete :

Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs

Final Cut Pro Obj Cache

Final Cut Pro Prof Cache

trash them

empty the trash

You might want to check out this nifty utility called FCP Rescue. It does basically what needs to be done, but you can revert your prefs in case that didn't fix it. Also useful to backup settings.

I recently had problems with the dual G5 at the office and FCP 5.04 after updating to 7.1.3. We lost all DV, not only output. Also input. I had to do a little juggling to get everything working again.

To downgrade QuickTime, I found out I had to go the following route:

- Quicktime 6.5.2 Reinstaller

- Quicktime 7.1.2 Installer

Maybe you are lucky and you can directly use the 7.1.2 installer to revert.

Otherwise look for "quicktime reinstaller" in Apple Support and go that long route.

  • 4 weeks later...

I had a strange abnormality after upgrading to 5.1.2

There is now a short timedelay in every project. It doesn't matter, if I use saved projects or make a new project. The playhead is in the next clip, but you see and hear still the last frames of the former clip.

I removed the prefs, but this didn't fix it. It is not the app, which causes this, cause when i use the old 5.1 app, I get the same abberation, so it must be caused by other parts of the update, but i can't figure out which?

Any suggestions? Could it be the proapp-update?

How can i reverse this update? I updated through the update-site, not by downloading the img.
