My system specs: Dell Precision M4800  i7 Quad @ 2.7GHz; 16GB; NVIDIA Quadro K1100M; USB 3; Audio - Realtek High Definition Audio; Wireless - 1550 802.11ac Broadcom.

-------

I have just installed El Capitan OK (using Clover - Legacy BIOS, no flags as yet) and found a couple of necessary kexts, but some things are not working. I would really appreciate some assistance...

Working fine:

Display; Keyboard; Mouse; Wireless; Ethernet; display colour profile; USB (but only as USB2).

Not working:

Sleep (Display turns off fine; CPU turns off, then restarts 2 seconds later);

Display brightness (permanent full bright);

Trackpad (no input at all);

Audio (none found);

Battery status (not present in System Prefs;

Bluetooth (none present).

Quite a lot, really, now I list it..! And certainly limiting proper use. I hope to succeed by using flags and kexts because I know nothing of this DSDT editing I read about (but am very willing to try if necessary)...

Loving the prospect of OSX... I do hope someone can help me...

Anna

Hi,

To get your hackintosh working better you need to do lot of work! (including DSDT/SSDT patching).

First, I'd suggest you use Clover Bootloader, it can easily fix most of your problems.

Here's what I can tell regarding your "Not working" list.

- USB 2.0 Only issue: Follow this guide to get your USB 3.0 working http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/306777-guide-usb-fix-el-capitan-1011/(but I personally don't really think it matters in hackintosh)

- Sleep and wake: Acceleration isn't working properly (or not at all). Properly check that QE/CI is working (just try to play Chess, if you can play without lag, then it's working). Also check which GPU is enabled (Intel or Nvidia). If GPU is working but still no sleep, then you will have to deal with that, not all computers can have a 100% working hackintosh :D It's designed to run Windows ! (remember ? lol)

- Display brightness: Patch your DSDT/SSDT to enable brightness control

- Trackpad: Install "VoodooPS2Controller.kext"

- Audio: Depends on the Audio device, you may need to patch the DSDT. But you can simply try "VoodooHD.kext" (Keep in mind that not all versions of that kext work with all versions of OS X, I meant some versions are made specifically for some OS X version. Using the wrong kext can cause Kernel Panic)

- Battery Status: The most convenient way requires DSDT patching, but you can try this kext "ACPIBatteryManager.kext"

- Bluetooth (& Wi-Fi): Requires a supported hardware, there is NO MIRACLE for that. Either you get a supported Network card or you use USB Dongle or forget network connection or Bluetooth service.

I suggest you post your entire System specs in the OP so that people can help you more.

Example:

- CPU = Core i7-620M @ 2,66GHz
- iGPU = Intel HD Graphics (Arrandale, ID = 0046)
- dGPU = ATI Mobility HD 5430
- Network (Wi-Fi & BT) = Atheros AR5B195 (Wi-Fi + BT Combo)
- Sound Card = IDT 92HD79B1
- Trackpad = Alps Trackpad

Nonta 72, thanks for responding.

I have included my system specs already - except I left out Alps Trackpad.

I've no idea what QE/CI is - but acceleration seems no problem (Chess certainly responds very well).

VoodooPS2Controller.kext does not work, nor does VoodooPS2Controller.kext

It looks like I am going to have to learn about DSDT patching / editing

Thanks again.

You will need to patch DSDT to ge most of the things to work for OS X.

What do you mean by VoodooPS2Controller.kext does not work, nor does VoodooPS2Controller.kext ?

Sorry, I meant:  'Neither Voodoo HDA nor VoodooPS2 worked'. (Nor did Mirone's AppleHDA).

You say patch DSDT. I've read about instructions how to dis-assemble and re-compile, but what you say seems always to be the essential step and, if it's not possible to find a suitable patch, specific to my configuration, then it's a dead end.

Because I can find no info for beginners on the where, what, how of editing in a .dsl file to add or change settings for e.g Audio, Sleep, Bluetooth.

Which is why I need to seek help from someone who has successfully setup a M4800 such as mine and is willing to explain or offer a solution.

Lots of failures so far, but I'm not giving up. ( Yet! )

I told you to use Clover EFI Bootloader! It can save you from DSDT patching. For example, you can patch you IDT Sound card on the fly in Clover, which is not possible with Chimera/Chameleon.

And you are probably getting DSDT stuff wrong, DSDT is very precious; a little difference between hardwares can cause the DSDT to fail or give kernel panic.

About patches, I believe there are general patches that work on every laptop.

Next time you reply, please do use the 'Quote' function so that I can be notified (you may need to click on the 'Quote' button twice).

Sorry for long gap - taken me this long to get back to workable situation.

I have been using Clover Bootloader throughout.

From the start I had been hoping that editing the config.plist in Configurator (and adding kexts) would be all that was needed. But my attempts were not successful which is why I knew I needed to ask questions - and the impression i got from reading here and elsewhere was that all laptops need DSDT patching.

I do now (somehow!) have most things working (using Config.plist edits). Of my ‘not working’ list in first post, only the Audio, Bluetooth and Sleep issues remain unfixed.

Getting ports to be USB3 was simply adding ‘fixUSB’ in config.plist. Display Brightness solved (a workaround) by installing simple Brightness Slider app. Trackpad (partly) and Battery status resolved by Voodoo kexts.

So, the remaining issues :

Bluetooth I would definitely like to sort but I can bypass with a USB adaptor.

SD Card slot also I would like to solve but can live without.

Sleep function not working is still a problem I would definitely like to overcome.

And having no Audio is a real problem.

You say “you can patch you IDT Sound card on the fly in Clover

Yes, so I hoped, but how? I've tried different kexts, and nowhere in Configurator could I find any obvious reference to Audio. (I have tried the FixHDA option, which had no effect).Searching all over - including Clover wiki - turned up no answers I could find.

If you could shed some light on this I’d be much grateful.

Thanks again
