I partitioned my drive to two partitions Windows and MAC using MAC Disk Utility and installed El Capitan First

Hi,

My laptop can only boot by legacy. Therefore I chose following options to install

Install Clover in ESP

Install boot0ss in MBR

With these settings El Capitan worked. However I have following issues

1. When I boot El Capitan first time my USB ports don't work. When I restart, USB ports starts working again. USB3 port doesn't work at all.

2. Keyboard keys for backlight doesn't work even though I installed Backlight kext and VoodooPS2 which worked when I installed Yosemite.

I also tried to install Windows 7. It installed of course damaged Clover. I reinstalled Clover but when I select Windows Legacy option from boot list it hangs there for a while and when i hit any key it goes back to boot selection menu.

Clover/Other/ Kexts

FakePCIID.kext

HPRAIDInjector.kext

FakePCIID_XHCIMux.kext

FakeSMC.kext

VoodooPS2Controller.kext

Installed Kexts

DummyHDA.kext

ACPIBacklight.kext

ACPIBatteryManager.kext

I can attach my clover config files, patched DSDT,SSDT SSDT-1 files if you need. Thanks.

El Capitan is known for its USB changes.. You should read on how to apply the PWRD patches to your DSDT. Also, there are several methods to get your backlight keys working by editing your DSDT. Look it up.

About Windows Legacy, why don't you install OSX and Clover first, using GUID partition scheme, and then install Windows along OSX, but in UEFI mode?

Even though your system only counts with Legacy Bios, you can create a UEFI Windows USB, and boot it from Clover. That's what I did in my old Toshiba Satellite, and now it has Windows 8 and Mac OS X with Clover, all in EFI mode, no legacy partitions :D

That is the beauty of Clover! heheh  :superman:

Also, don't use ACPIBacklight, IntelBacklight is preferred, as long as you use the appropriate DSDT patch,  as it is more compatible and gives less problems.

Thanks for the reply. I managed to boot windows by using PBR method. Unfortunately when I make USB with UEFI mode, it doesn't work BIOS doesn't boot from USB. Only way for me to use clover was

Install Clover in ESP and Install boot0xx in MBR. I will really appreciate if you can direct me to PWRD patches you mention for my USB3 port to work.

What I mean is installing Clover on hard drive, using Install boot0xx in MBR , and then stick your Windows UEFI USB in the computer and start up Clover.

You boot Clover from the BIOS and then you boot the USB from within the Clover selection menu. If that doesnt work, you didnt use the appropriate method for creating a Windows UEFI USB..

For the USB patches, this is a good read, although there are several methods, depending on the type of hardware you have.
